Looking more and more like D-tackle first pick

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I like Pat Sims from Auburn. But man do I want Xavier Adibi. Would Sims fall to the third? He was a 2nd rounder but I dont know lately....

Round one DT with a trade wont happen
Round two without trading down wont happen. atlanta at 3 will govern the DT available in 2. They have two picks ahead of us and DT will happen in those three picks.

Round three. now we are talking.
Red Bryant, Texas A&M, 6041, 318, 5.04
Ahtyba Rubin, Iowa St., 6027, 315, 5.17
DeMario Pressley, North Carolina St., 6031, 301, 5.14

Round 4
Andre Fluellen, Florida St., 6019, 296, 5.00
Nick Hayden, Wisconsin, 6039, 291, 5.17

Round 5
Frank Morton, Tulane, 6020, 331, 5.35

We don't need value, we need an impact player. Our entire 2007 draft was value. How many of them even played a down, or even dressed? Our best rookie was a FA.

Most of the draft in 2007 was offense right. In 2006 we drafted offense and got a boat load of starters. So is it really surprising that the next group drafted would have a harder time getting playing time? NO. What we did was get some good depth and players to develop so when the contracts for Stinch and a couple of others run out in 2009 we have players ready to step in. Granted we did not see them play much in 2007 but we will see them on the field in 2008. The team really has no choice but to play them and see what they have to pick from in 2009. Next year is going to be very interesting on how the OL is shaped for years to come.
Give the draft class of 2007 till the end of the year, then pass judgment.

If the aforementioned trade doesnt happen and we can not get Dorsey or Ellis, then IMO there are no other impact players that can crack the lineup. I think a guy like Pressley or Fluellen from this group could get some time in the rotation. I also think that you mentioned Guion in another post and I think that he would be a good backup to groom into the position. But there will not be much of an impact at DT from the draft without Dorsey or Ellis.

Looks like Ellis and Shockey. Not bad. Two difference makers on both sides of the field.

Rubin in the 3rd would be perfect. He is ne of the best run stuffers in the draft. I watched the Senior Bowl practices and I was never impressed with Fluellen. So if I could have a perfect draft without trading it would be DRC, Xavier Adibi, than Rubin.

That is my point as well- we drafted for depth, not production. The unfortunate end result last year was that we didn't draft the type of player who could get us over the hump, ie Dorsey.
The original argument in the thread was draft Laws over Dorsey, for the sake of taking value.

To hell with run stuffers. We have that and it hasn't done well for us. We need young, dominate, inside pass rushers. Get to the QB disrupt the offense.

DRC has done what his whole college career? He was off the radar till the Senior Bowl. One dame doesn't warrant a top 10 pick.
