devery, trade bait or released?

Our source in New Orleans said there’s a battle brewing between WRs Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson to become the Saints’ No. 3 receiver and that the loser of the bout could find himself out of a job after training camp.

I really doubt they would cut their first round pick from a year ago. Maybe if he doesn't crack the starting lineup in 2009, but no sooner than that.

this is false. saints signed devery back for a reason. and meachem will be on the team. saints don't have a clear cut number 2 receiver above those 2 to begin with.. who is it they are listing as the number 2?? patten? dude got hot last few games of the year but still come on..

Trade bait? sure
One more year sure
After that this should be the last year Devery is in B&G. Unless he plays lights out. Less than 5 drops in a season. If we draft a WR by the 3rd then it is almost a given he will be gone in 2009

I read that. I don't believe you cut your first round draft pick. plus didn't we resign Henderson. Yes we did.

I really don't understand the dropps issue. T.O. has the most dropps and you don't hear anyone talking about cutting him. No, I am not comparing Devery to T.O. ...... just don't see that as the major reason to cut him. Is he a superstar...NO, but he is an average WR.

The reason is that T.O. has production to back up those drops. And in 2006 he had a built-in excuse.

The problem with a receiver that drops the ball is that you can't trust them. Fundamentally receivers have one primary job: CATCH THE DAMN BALL! If they cannot do that one job consistently, then they are a liability to your team.

That's why Moore and Copper sometimes get the nod, Generally they catch the ball when it's thrown to them.

We can afford to have Henderson around as the #3 or #4 guy simply to stretch the defense. But really he's supposed to be the trusted #2 veteran guy at this point.

Oh I agree with you and others SFIAH. Devery should have become the solid #2 for this team, two years ago. I see Devery as a #3 or a #4 guy.

I just think we as fans are expecting him to be something he isn't. Devery is our Fred Thomas on the offensive side of the ball. Devery will drop the 10 yd slant pass, but will catch the; 5 defenders on him, finger tip catch, both feet down, tip toes dragging in the back corner of the endzone, of a 75 yd pass.

I just don't understand what his problem is.

Speed does kill ... but if you got rock hands, doesn't do much good ....if Devery is not cut this year, this should be his last year for sure in B&G, unless the Saints pick up another Colston in Round 7 in a couple of weeks.
