Saints happy with their new Draft approach

SunHerald.com : Saints happy with their new Draft approach

Current Saints coach Sean Payton said his gleaming grin following the 2008 Draft was legit. And it didn't take a player falling into the team's lap or explaining the reason behind drafting a small-school unknown.

Two picks, two needs and both players graded out above the rest of the players on the Saints' Draft board at the time. It opened up the team's options later in the Draft, but not the route the Saints have been accustomed to the last couple of drafts.

The decision to trade up with New England to No. 7 to select USC defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis was in the works leading up to Saturday's first round.

Re: Saints happy with their new Draft approach

I think he is happy because he feels like his 1st round pick has a chance of stepping onto the field this year.

He's probably happy that they got a kicker and didn't waste a 1st round pick on him.

I don't know about Payton, but I wonder how Benson feels about the SoCal flavor that is slowly creeping into the Saints' recipe. There's Bush, Brees, and now Ellis. Coincident?? Probably.

The only thing SoCal about Brees is that he played for San Diego. He's a Texan that went to college at Purdue. I wouldn't put him in there with Ellis and Bush.

Re: Saints happy with their new Draft approach

Its our secret plan... load the team up with USC talent then move the team out here to LA so we have our boys back. LOL.
