You should. Players that have bad character can not play very long in the NFL.

Having said that, young kids that do have good character can make mistakes. The ones with character quit being jerks, and can make it in the NFL. The ones that truly have bad character keep making mistakes, and always bring themselves and their team down.

I like all of our picks. I think every one of them have excellent value, save the kicker, whom I believe to have average value.

Re: who was the steal in our draft?

"Character" is just too ambiguous for me. It seems like it packs in several ideas that we might want to separate:

(1) Leadership - either by example or by charisma. Lacking this can be bad, but doesn't seem critical.

(2) Making good choices with your life. Lacking this can land you in jail, etc. and this will be a problem for the team. Other things equal, I'd prefer players who don't start fights, are abusive to others (off the field), and so on, but it doesn't make much difference, football speaking, unless they are jailed as a result.

(3) Sensitive to coaching. Players who refuse to learn are a problem for any team. This lack of character does seem to harm the team.

(4) Locker room cancer. I'm never really sure about this one. I'm inclined to think that if a player is so bad he is harming the team because of his presence, that is a problem. On the other hand, I'm not clear on how this could happen... or even what it would be like. Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of players have been called locker room cancers, but I'm still not sure on how it gets to that point.

(5) Player takes care of himself. Players that don't take care of their body, their personal life, and so on can get themselves out of football condition. This, I think, is a minor problem if you have a good training staff, coaches, etc.

I'm sure there are others.

I think Ellis and Arlington are going to have big time playing time this year. Also some of the free agents coming in are going to take away jobs from our existing core of recievers. I believe Lance Moore and Copper will be gone. Also look for some of our CB/Safeties to be phased our due to the competition of ree agents. Bullocks and Bellamy are gone.
