Are we doing with Shockey what we did last year...

with Walter Thomas? I think everyone's wanted a great TE since Cleeland's 1st year showed what it could do. Maybe we're giving too much to Shockey because we want YAC from the TE position?

i think its a little different because the trade talks are/were very real....shockey is so talented and adding him would be a great new weapon on the offense....i think the hype is because everyone knows what it would mean to the saints offense....whether the off the field issues were there or not...shockey has talent and thats why we are so excited...i honestly dont see it happening but it would be lovely wouldnt it lol

Did you just compare Shockey to Walter Thomas? Was Shockey doing back flips and robbing DQs? I mean, didn't Shockey go to 4 probowls while Mr. Walt T was going to 4 different JuCos?

cleeland went downhill with the saints after that rookie hazing incident where he took a sock full of quarters to the eye

Thomas had the "potential" to help us whereas Shockey is a proven player. Also, Shockey is a different TE than Gates. Gates is more of a find the hole, get up and make the catch TE. Shockey would be used in our offense to stretch the seams, bait the safeties, and provide severe mismatch problems when him and Reggie were on the field at the same time. Gates is the best TE in football because he carries his team's passing game. Shockey would not be asked to be the main (and only) target, but to compliment the other weapons we have while adding another dimension to the offense.

Gates is the best RECEIVING tight end in football, but Shockey is the best blocking TE and probably the second or third best receiver.

Without Shockey, we're a top five offense this year.

With Shockey, we're a top five offense all time.
