Week 4 Power Ratings Are Coming In

Looks like the Saints are picked ahead of the Jets in all the polls....

Bleacher Report....

1. (1) Baltimore Ravens (3-0)

The Ravens absolutely dismantled the Browns, 34-3. They now have the second-best offense of 430.3 yards per game, and seventh-best defense of 282.7 yards per game in the league.

2. (2) New York Giants (3-0)

The G-Men outgained the Bucs, 397-86.

3. (3) Indianapolis Colts (3-0)

Peyton Manning and the Colts put up 505 yards at Arizona on Sunday night, but the injury to Dwight Freeney will be costly.

4. (4) Minnesota Vikings (3-0)

If only Brett Favre hadn't retired twice, everyone would've been so happy for him after his amazing touchdown pass to beat the Niners instead of cringing because they knew it would just lead to another Chris Berman love-fest on The Blitz.

5. (5) New Orleans Saints (3-0)

The Saints proved they could still win without Drew Brees throwing for at least 311 yards.

6. (9) New York Jets (3-0)

Thanks to Yom Kippur, the Jets and Giants played at the same time for the first time in 25 years. I'd have to guess that most neutral fans were tuned to Rex Ryan's outstanding defense, which forced four Titans turnovers.

7. (7) San Diego Chargers (2-1)

Without LaDainian Tomlinson for a second straight week, the Chargers ran for just 69 yards, but were still able to beat the Dolphins, thanks in part to Chad Pennington's injury.

8. (8) Dallas Cowboys (2-1)

Despite some sloppy tackling and terrible play-calling inside the five-yard line, the Cowboys were able to get past the Panthers on Monday night.

9. (10) New England Patriots (2-1)

The Pats proved they weren't dead yet by using a balanced ground attack to outscore the Falcons, 13-0, in the second half.

10. (6) Atlanta Falcons (2-1)

The Falcons drop after losing at New England and we suddenly realize that the two teams they've beaten, Miami and Carolina, are 0-6.

Here are some NFL Power Rankings for Week 4 (Last week's ranking is in brackets):

1 (1) New York Giants (3-0) The Giants offensive line is great and their defense is still one of the best in the league. In three weeks, the Giants may not have been the best team, but they have been consistent.

2 (3) New Orleans Saints (3-0) Yeah, the offense is good, but how about that defense? New Orleans’ D harassed Trent Edwards all day and held the Bills’ offense to 243 yards.

3 (6) Baltimore Ravens (3-0) Sure, they beat the Browns, but that Ravens offense looks impressive. Joe Flacco is great and Willis McGahee seems to have new lease on life.

4 (8) New York Jets (3-0) All that weird homoerotic adulation that the media has bestowed on Tom Brady may soon transfer to Mark Sanchez.

5 (4) Indianapolis Colts (3-0) Peyton Manning is averaging 327 passing yards and has completed nearly 69 percent of his passes.

6 (11) Minnesota Vikings (3-0) Ah, the Brett Favre of old. Not enough to make you forget what a pain he's been the last two seasons, but it was nice.

7 (7) Chicago Bears (2-1) Jay Cutler has had two game-winning drives in a row.

8 (5) Atlanta Falcons (2-1) No need to hit the panic button just yet.

9 (16) Denver Broncos (3-0) Enjoy it, Denver. Brandon Marshall seems to be behaving himself. Knowshon Moreno looks decent. Now they have to face Dallas, New England and San Diego in the coming weeks.

10 (9) San Diego Chargers (2-1) Vincent Jackson looks like he could break out and become a star.

1 Giants 3-0-0 - 1/7 RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: The most complete team in the league has shown it, winning two tough division games before stifling the Bucs without Justin Tuck and Chris Canty. Through three games, the big offseason WR question has been answered by Steve Smith (23 catches, 2nd in NFL) and Mario Manningham (17 catches, T-12th in NFL).

2 Saints 3-0-0 2 2/16 RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: Make room on the bandwagon, because I'm jumping aboard. Roughing up the Lions in Week 1 was no biggie, but blasting two tough teams on the road like Philly and Buffalo to the tune of 75-29 was impressive.
RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: Make room on the bandwagon, because I'm jumping aboard. Roughing up the Lions in Week 1 was no biggie, but blasting two tough teams on the road like Philly and Buffalo to the tune of 75-29 was impressive. Especially impressive is how they won against the Bills, more with running and defense instead of an aerial assault. THIS WEEK: vs. Jets (3-0)
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy | Schedule | Apps
3 Colts 3-0-0 6 3/10 RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: Watch out for Peyton Manning this season. He only needed 15 minutes with the ball to beat the defending AFC East champion Dolphins in Week 2 before carving up the reigning NFC champion Cardinals in Week 3.
RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: Watch out for Peyton Manning this season. He only needed 15 minutes with the ball to beat the defending AFC East champion Dolphins in Week 2 before carving up the reigning NFC champion Cardinals in Week 3. Granted, he may need to keep firing four TDs each game with Dwight Freeney hurt, but Manning is coming off an MVP season when he carried his team and seems poised to do it again. THIS WEEK: vs. Seahawks (1-2)
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy | Schedule | Apps
4 Eagles 2-1-0 3 3/7 BETTER THAN RECORD: The Eagles have a look of a team that could rest up and get healthy during the bye week, then start putting all of their juicy pieces together and reel off a string of wins in a hurry.
BETTER THAN RECORD: The Eagles have a look of a team that could rest up and get healthy during the bye week, then start putting all of their juicy pieces together and reel off a string of wins in a hurry. Coming off last week's win over K.C. and this week's bye, Philly faces Tampa, Oakland and Washington (combined 2-7) before hitting the meat of their schedule — giving Andy Reid some games to start tinkering with new toy Mike Vick. THIS WEEK: Bye
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy | Schedule | Apps
5 Jets 3-0-0 - 5/21 WORSE THAN RECORD: Are the Jets a big tease, overrated and destined for a major fade? No. They will challenge for a playoff spot and the AFC East title. But a road win at Houston in the opener notwithstanding, Mark Sanchez will have a few rookie moments before he's through this season and the Jets still haven't faced any major road test ...

But a road win at Houston in the opener notwithstanding, Mark Sanchez will have a few rookie moments before he's through this season and the Jets still haven't faced any major road test ... until Week 4, that is. Tune in next week. THIS WEEK: at Saints (3-0)
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy | Schedule | Apps
6 Patriots 2-1-0 - 2/6 RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: It turns out there was no reason to freak out after all over the Pats' sluggish first couple games. Instead, Bill Belichick had to realize that the 2009 Patriots were not the "bombs away" 2007 version, at least not yet as Tom Brady shakes his cobwebs from missing most of 2008.

Instead, Bill Belichick had to realize that the 2009 Patriots were not the "bombs away" 2007 version, at least not yet as Tom Brady shakes his cobwebs from missing most of 2008. After 100 passes in Brady's first two games back, Emperor Bill dialed up the running game perfectly last week vs. Atlanta. THIS WEEK: vs. Ravens (3-0)
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy | Schedule | Apps
7 Ravens 3-0-0 3 7/12 RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: The Ravens were one of my favorite teams heading into this season. So why were they ranked 10th in last week's rankings with Joe Flacco's AFC-best scoring offense so improved? This defense giving up 50 points in the first two games without Rex Ryan calling plays was unnerving, so it was nice to see the normal Ravens defense back last week.

This defense giving up 50 points in the first two games without Rex Ryan calling plays was unnerving, so it was nice to see the normal Ravens defense back last week. Of course, it was against the Browns, too. Baltimore's next three games will be the true test (at NE, vs. CIN, at MIN). THIS WEEK: at Patriots (2-1)
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy | Schedule | Apps
8 Steelers 1-2-0 6 1/8 BETTER THAN RECORD: Chalk up the 1-2 mark to a slight case of Super Bowl hangover, but more to the loss of defensive leader Troy Polamalu. There's no way the Steelers blow back-to-back fourth quarter leads if the hairy All-Pro safety is doing his thing.

There's no way the Steelers blow back-to-back fourth quarter leads if the hairy All-Pro safety is doing his thing. But even when they won the Super Bowl last season, Pittsburgh's margin of error was never too vast. Which means they're not far away from getting back on top. THIS WEEK: vs. Chargers (2-1)
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy | Schedule | Apps
9 Vikings 3-0-0 1 5/11 RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: The thinking all offseason was that the Vikings were a QB away from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. One Brett Favre miracle heave against the 49ers shows that thinking may be right on target.
RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: The thinking all offseason was that the Vikings were a QB away from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. One Brett Favre miracle heave against the 49ers shows that thinking may be right on target. While Favre still needs to show his aging bones can last the whole season at the same level, games like this week's Packers reunion should keep his juices flowing. Still, two cupcake wins and one last-second TD toss means this team also might not be fully clicking yet. THIS WEEK: vs. Packers (2-1)
Team: Home | Stats | Fantasy | Schedule | Apps
10 Falcons 2-1-0 7 3/10 RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: Matt Ryan's team got a wake-up call on where they stand by the Patriots. Translation: The Falcons are on the right path, but not quite ready to take over the NFC just yet.
RECORD IS JUST RIGHT: Matt Ryan's team got a wake-up call on where they stand by the Patriots. Translation: The Falcons are on the right path, but not quite ready to take over the NFC just yet. They first have to tighten up the defense and show they can win road games against the NFL's elite. THIS WEEK: Bye

Re: Week 4 Power Ratings Are Coming In

Power Rankings: Could it be an East Rutherford Super Bowl? - NFL - CBSSports.com Football

Power Rankings
Current Team Previous
1 Giants · Trends 3
Seeing how the passing game played in Dallas has to give this team hope for the rest of the season. Those young receivers came up big. Eli Manning was sharp. The defense needs to play better, especially against the run.
2 Colts · Trends 5
They showed Miami what's important in the NFL: Scoring points, not ball control. They've played two close games, but 2-0 is still 2-0, right?
3 Falcons · Trends 6
We'll know if they belong here when they go to New England next week and face an angry Patriots team. They better hope the defense tightens up. The offense can be explosive.
4 Saints · Trends 10
They play with their foot on the pedal all game long. It's a treat to watch. Drew Brees is on fire and Sean Payton doesn't let up. The defense is still iffy.
5 Ravens · Trends 11
The best thing to come out of the first two weeks is how well Joe Flacco has played. He has five touchdown passes in two games. But that didn't look like a Ravens defense in San Diego.
6 Jets · Trends 16
Defense, defense and more defense. Watch out when Mark Sanchez gets even better. This team is better than I expected.
7 Vikings · Trends 13
They've defeated two bad teams on the road, which was to be expected. The jury is still out. What happens when they have to throw to win?
8 Patriots · Trends 1
Where has the offense gone? What has happened to the big play? This isn't what we've come to expect with the Patriots. Tom Brady looks jumpy.
9 Steelers · Trends 2
At some point, they need to get the running game going. Ben Roethlisberger is taking too many big hits. It's a huge game this week at Cincinnati. Do the champs fall to 1-2?
10 Cowboys · Trends 12
Talk all you want about how poorly Tony Romo played, but if they don't improve on defense it won't matter. That unit has given up too many big plays in two games in the passing game. That needs to be fixed quickly.
