Houston to New Orleans and Back.
"Back" is always the tough part.

My wife & I drive about every other weekend in the Fall--for Saints Football Season! I drive just like Burt Reynolds, maybe cooler, and it still takes 6 hours.

We'll sleep in New Orleans one weekend, or stay on a bayou another. We just dig trying out different places in Louisiana, even doing touristy stuff, in Cajun Country, or in New Orleans itself. I think we've stayed in every hotel in the CBD.

Living in the rat race in Houston, sometimes we enjoy being in the middle of nowhere, or at least Breaux Bridge. Other game weekends, you just have to go to the French Quarter. Every La. weekend is different, and I love em all.

So we Saints fans, I believe, do more driving than any other fan base, except maybe Green Bay. The I-10 Houston to New Orleans Caravan has
to be the biggest in football. Even before the Storm, partly due to the Oil Biz, a lot of people split time between TX & LA. And I know Houston has as many WhoDats as it does Texans fans.

You cant miss us. I always paint a big shoe-white FLEUR DE LIS on
my back window, and of course all the Saints stickers. Another phenomenon
of Saints fandom is getting "WhoDat'ed, when you drive down the road, right? "honk honk honk honk!" (big wave, thumbs up, or #1 gesture)

So, just wondering, who else is making the I-10 Saints March this weekend?

I make the I 285 to I 85 to I 65 to I 10 West. That's 7 hours, and I usually don't start seeing Saints fans until Mobile!

Wish I could be making the drive this weekend but the EX is moving out and need to make sure none of my stuff disappears with her...

Ya'll have a blast in N.O. Have some Dome Foam for me and get LOUD!!

You mean like in "Smokey and the Bandit"? You reminded me of my days in the Navy with my Camaro and my CB. My handle was "Popeye" and my wife took "Virginia Slim". We were stationed at Dam Neck, Va. at the time...and she wasn't too crazy about the handle "Olive Oyl".

I use to make that trip, Mike, during my Houston days, but today I would be taking 64W to 65S to 59S to Slidell, where I have lived at 5 different addresses, and then pick up 10W into New Orleans.

I roll out of bed on a Sunday morning, walk down the stairs and put on the coffee, make some breakfast and sit out by the pool. I usually smoke a cigar while I listen to the radio pregame broadcast of all the people filing into the superdome.

About 11:30 people start coming over the house to watch the game on my 108" HDTV projection system. Beer is on the house but most people can't climb that high, so they bring their own. Plus, you can smokem if you gottem.

I used to go to the games but I the ticket prices got to be unreal, and the wife doesn't care to go.

Cool deal Mike. I know a few Houstonians who make the trip on occasion but every game?!

I usually climb in the car at about 9am and make the long 30 minute commute over the causeway. Lots of honking and thumbs up on there as well.

I dont like to toot my own horn, (because I cant reach it.) but if Burt Reynolds, Steve McQueen, Starsky, & Hutch were all one man--- they would be me --driving. Thats how cool I drive. What ever happened to cool driving, anyway? Remember, back in the 70s "cool driving" was a social standard. People are wusses now. btw, LB, you drove a CAMARO, therefore you are a real man. just so you know.

yeah yeah... catman, I get it... your life is easier than mine, and makes more sense. You're gonna wish you kept mum on this, when I come knocking on your door one gameday morning, and you're stuck cooking us breakfast. I want pancakes. and community coffee. black. maybe a shot of jack.

just about every game, holmes. I've always wondered how much trouble it is to drive across that causeway for games. and how hard it is to get back across AFTERWARD???

this is getting interesting, yall. I've always wondered what everyone else is doing while I'm hauling arshe like Luke Duke down the swamp.

.

See my pretty young wife there?

<<<<<<<

Now look at me. I'm short, poor, old, drive a beat-up-truck, and come
with much baggage. BUT I DRIVE REALLY COOL.

. . . and that is why she wants me.

Please do not mention this statement to her, or we will
both be laughed out of our seats.

Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10

I'm the Floor Captain at a "fancy" restaurant here in B'ham which means I pretty much get pooped on every Sunday and have to work brunch because we're short staffed. I managed to get out there in time for the second half of the DET game and we finally got a TV in the restaurant for the PHI game, so I saw all of it.

The BUF game was at 3, so I hit up the local watering hole with sunday ticket and took on a couple of pitcher of Restoration. You ever get a hangover the same day that you got drunk? No fun.

Anyway, the Giants game is the day after my 30th B-day and my wonderful girl friend (former Houstonian and oiler fan who I have converted into a Saints fan) got us tickets. We're taking the train down and a SW flight back. Buddy Guy is playing Saturday and it's a free show, so that's on the agenda. Got some contacts that own a restaurant (anyone been to Cochon?), so we'll hit that up, too.

Get this, though: she's never been to New Orleans or a big time football game at any level. She's about to have her face melted off.
