Remaining Schedule

Looking at the rest of our schedule, not withstanding the "any given Sunday" rule, we only play 3 above .500 teams. Atlanta (twice), New England, and the Cowboys. Atlanta, will play us tough, they always do, but see us with the advantage on these games. New England, this, IMO, will be our toughest test of the second half of the season, if not the entire year. Although, it's a Monday night game, in the dome, so I think we still have an advantage here. Then there's the Saturday night game against the Cowboys. The Cowboys record in December, is not very good. I still see us with the advantage here.

Undefeated? I don't know, but let's face it: With the Bucs, and the Panthers falling so far, we are set up to get damn close. We will see.

Well at some point we need to lose a game! TO MUCH PRESSURE to have that on their shoulders going into the play offs let alone SB. As long as its not against the Cowboys its all good.

I know the feeling, but any loss at this point is going to be significant either to the standings or to the perception of the team. Let's take a look.

The Saints have 4 games left against bottom feeders: Tampa, St. Louis, and Washington. Any losses in this set will both plunk a NFC loss on the record and severely damage the national rep the team has spent thus far building.

Then there are the 4 remaining division games against the Falclowns and the Panthers. Losing to the 'clowns simply isn't acceptable. And with the Panthers in a tailspin a loss isn't a good look. Now we have the Panthers on the road the last game of the season. But if the team is 15-0 at that point and not having swept the Panthers in who knows how long, the opportunity to knock them down and stay perfect may be too much to resist sitting the starters.

Finally the Cowgirls and the Patriots. Both at home. Both national spotlight games (Monday night and Saturday Night) against high profile teams. Both are opportunities to show the Saints championship mettle in the big spotlight and defend the Dome.

IMO last week's game really was the last game that we could "afford" to lose without severely damaging the team's reputation. Technically the Saints could drop the ball in Atlanta on December 13th and be OK. But personally the thought of dropping one to 'clowns just makes me sick to my stomach.

The Saints really needed an away game to Buffalo in December. A loss there, even to a not so good Bills teams, would be overlooked.

But alas it's not to be.

Well, I really don't care much about the "rep", but right now, the immediate concern is to stay a game ahead of the Vikings. So, if the Vikings go 15-1, the Saints need to go 16-0.

The Vikings still have a few tough games left. They have to play a surpringing good Bengals team, Arizona in Arizona, and the Giants (possibly for the #2 seed) the last game of the season. That #1 schedule may come back to bite them where it hurts.

I really see atleast 12 wins. We will beat Atl at home, Panthers twise, Tampa twice, St Louis and Washington. That right there is 13 wins. Sota will proly lose atleast 3 more. Home field advantage and a first rd bye here we come!

.. and I do expect Farve to start throwing more INTs very soon. I think the Steelers game is a portent of more bad things to come.

Don't get me wrong, I want the Saints to sweep the Panthers, Falcons, and Bucs, as well as beat Dallas and the Patriots, but I'd settle for HFA throughout the playoffs :)

Priority order of things to get done this season:

0. As always: STAY HEALTHY!
1. Stomp the Falclowns! :D
2. Secure the division.
3. Get a playoff bye.
4. Get HFA.

Doing #1 will all but guarantee #2. Beat the Clowns now, and they will need to beat both the Giants and the Eagles, and beat the Saints later in the year to come close to the tie-breaker. They already lost to Dallas and the Patriots, which the Saints are yet to play, and the Saints should beat Dallas.
