Panthers fans turn to delusion

I guess they think they are the NFL elite after beating an up one week down one week Cards team. Silly kittie fans... football is for real men.

Quote:

Get ready for the panthers RBS to destroy your D that is for sure. Turner last night proved ya'll have hugh wholes in ya'lls run D. The panthers will look at the Monday night game film and will find your weakness. Our ST has been good at times and bad other times. The ST is ? for us. But our D is kicking the crap out of teams now. So your QB better ready to drop to his knees and beg for mercy.

how many times have we heard that? how many times have we only won by single digits? uhh......once and that was by more than a touchdown

they are getting excited because they saw what a better team was able to do to us when we are missing 2 key players in the box

they have no idea what we are going to do to them......i will be baffled if we win by less than 10

With Sedrick Ellis out, we are going to take a hit as far as run defense is concerned. Turner did exploit that yesterday and if we let Williams and Stewart run wild, this game could be a tough one. I am a bit worried about this upcoming game... we're bound to lose one somewhere.

hmmm panthers do have dangerous ground game... and julius peppers really man handled kurt warner this week. I think it'll be a good matchup but I think our offense is just to high powered for them.. And if the run is stopped an Delhomme has to throw I think he's gonna throw up some picks

saints win

I don't know they are smoking up in Carolina, but whatever it is, its gotta be good stuff. Those guys are off their rocker. I don't see us losing any of the upcoming 3 games. The one that worries me, is the one I'm going to, the MNF matchup with the Patriots. That one is gonna be a toughie.

Atlanta at Atlanta, New England and possibly Dallas...but certainly not Carolina.

Their fans aren't delusional ... They are just that --- FANS! Of course they think they'll give our team fits ... Quite frankly, they probably will with our run "D" hurting currently --- This (like last night's game) is a HUGE divisional game ... They have a tendency to be tougher games regardless of individual team records.

Let's not be "delusional" ourselves ... We really are bound to lose one at some point --- And with our run "D" hurting ... Who knows. I doubt it will be against Carolina this weekend, but this game may end up being closer than you think.

Don't kid yourself, the panthers are a good team and will do more than atl offensively and will bring more pressure defensively. I believe that last week we DID see the real cats so we better be on top of our game or this will get ugly fast.

Jake gets alot of blame and it's mostly deserved. But, his only WR with talent, and that talent isn't NEAR what it once was, is a complete punk. He has no TE. His RB's are not good out of the backfield. And his O-Line is average at best. The Panthers defense has three very good players but is very weak at S and DT. Greer will lock down Smith. The RB's will get their yards but nothing special. The Saints will get the lead and Jake will force a couple throws. Game over. Could get ugly.

The Panthers will certainly not do more than ATL offensively. Delhomme is no where near as talented as Ryan is. Turner is better than than the two RB's for the Panthers and the Gonzales is better than anything the Panthers have at TE. I don't think that the Panthers have anything better at defense too so I say the Panthers are inferior to the Falcons.

The Saints should win this one by 10 points or more.

I'm sure Sharper is looking forward this game.

Delhomme may be used to throwing the ball up for grabs to Smith on Jason David and Bullocks, but he hasn't met the Porter, Greer, and Sharper triad.

Coming off a short week.
Panthers have TWO good RB's (not one like Atlanta)
Carolina is riding high and gained confidence (even tho AZ gave the game away)
Nothing worse than a scared dog backed into a corner

Our team has played sloppy football over the past two games and our run D is suffering.

Carolina has more to play for than any of the previous 7 teams we beat.

I don't like this match up bc of what the Panthers are CAPABLE of.

I don't care how bad of a season Delhomme is having, he has a history of making life miserable for the Saints. We already know the Panthers will attempt and probably succeed with getting their running game going early. The Saints can and should win this game, but they will have to eliminate the turnovers, get their own running game cranked, and please get Bushrod some help with Peppers!

Re: Panthers fans turn to delusion

I reallize, and acknowledge, that this is NOT the same defense the Panthers are used too, but with that said, I saw the stat today on ESPN. The Panthers have won 6, out of the last 7 times we've played them. That is a VERY important stat, when you are talking about the mind frame of your QB. I guarantee that Brees, is thinking about this. Are we the better team? Yes, by far. But if this is a championship team, then i see this as a mental hurdle, that we have to get over. Just like Manning, against the Patriots, or Tampa against Philly. Make no mistake ladies and gentlemen... in our division, the Panthers are our nemesis. It's time to get the monkey off our back.

Re: Panthers fans turn to delusion

Agreed. That monkey needs to be stomped.

The bottom line is that they are equal to or worse at almost every position than Atlanta. We have been finding ways to win and Carolina finding was to lose. If we show up with a B+ or better game we walk them home and kiss them goodnight. If we show up with a poor effort and execution then they have all that is needed to best us. I respect their run game, o-line, Steve Smith, Peppers and Beason immensely. Not too many others give me any loss of sleep. Show up and dominate Saints.

I completely disagree.

6 out of the last seven, that dates back to 2005, so I think that we can safely drop that one game in 2005.

So let's talk Payton era... 6 games.
In the Payton era, it stands at 5-1.

However:
In 2006, the Panthers and the Saints split: the first game the Saints lost by 3 in Carolina, then the Panthers beat the Saints in a completely meaningless last game of the season, in which the Saints starters played 1 quarter. Had the starters played the entire game, they would've killed the Panthers. So I am really not going to count that meaningless game as a win the Panthers earned.

So, it really stands at 4-1 in meaningful games. BUT:

In 2007, Saints lost at home by 3 and put a beatdown on the Panthers in Charlotte 31-6.

In 2008, the Saints had no defense. They did take a beatdown in Charlotte, and should've won the game in the Superdome.

THIS time, the Saints have a defense. This time, Delhommie better think twice about throwing those floaters to Smith that used to beat David and Bullocks all the time.

Heck,I'm looking forward to Sharper returning 3 INTs to the house this Sunday :)

This team has to protect Brees this week better than the last two games. I am hoping they do not give up the long runs and that we can turn their plan on them with long drives using our improved run game. With Brees at the helm almost anything can happen when he sees them cheating. Look for a hard fought gamw.

cargojon 11-07-2009 03:09 PM

Re: Panthers fans turn to delusion

Guys, let's remember the last time we played the Panthers. I was at that game last year. We had a lousy D, fell behind by a ton of points.

Then Brees got hot. We actually took the lead before Jason David whiffed on Steve Smith and we lost on that last second field goal as time expired.

We HAVE had success scoring on this team. I think Brees knows how to pick this team apart, and has done it the last time he faced them. Were it not for our God-awful defense last year, we would have won that game.

6 out of 7 does not tell the whole story. Frankly, there was the game too that (I think it was Grammatica) missed the FG's and we ended losing at the end again.

Another one of those 6 was at the end of 06 when we were resting the starters.

Don't eat the "6 out of 7" cheese...

Carolina is 3-4 for a reason and we are 7-0 for a reason. I know our history as a franchise has some of you gun shy about seeing the obvious but don't let that cloud your judgement. This will be a so-so game with us winning by at least 10 or more points. Drink the koolaid, people, we are for real.

We got Ayodele, Hargrove and Pressley (just signed from the Practice Squad) on the roster w/Ellis out for a few weeks and Clancy on the shelf until next year. This will be a test for this bunch against Carolina's running game. Who knows? The Saints just might hold off Williams and Stewart and force Ol' Jake to throw.
