POSTGAME NOTES

New Orleans Saints at St. Louis Rams ● Sunday, November 15, 2009

The Saints are 9-0 for the first time in franchise history. The Saints and the Indianapolis Colts (also 8-0) are the only two undefeated teams remaining in the NFL in 2009.
The Saints have now tied for the longest winning streak on club history. Three times, New Orleans has won nine consecutive games with the other two streaks occurring on the following timelines: from November 1-December 27, 1987 and from December 23, 1990-October 20, 1991.
The win was the first against the Rams by the Saints since September 26, 2004. The Saints now trail in the series 38-30 and are 7-11 against the Rams since they relocated to St. Louis from Los Angeles.
QB Drew Brees completed 18 passes for 223 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He now has 187 touchdown passes and is tied for 39th all-time with Sammy Baugh.
RB Reggie Bush carried six times for 83 yards with a three-yard touchdown run and had two receptions for 17 yards with a 15-yard touchdown. It was the seventh multiple touchdown game of his career and the first of 2009. His third quarter 55-yard run was the longest of his career.
DE Will Smith had a second quarter sack and forced fumble of QB Marc Bulger. He now has a team-leading 7.5 sacks on the season. He leads the team with three forced fumbles and now has 16 for his career.
WR Courtney Roby’s 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open up the second half was the first of his career and the club’s first since WR Michael Lewis had a 96-yard runback vs. Atlanta on Dec. 26, 2004.
DT Remi Ayodele had his second sack of the season in the second quarter.
S Usama Young had his first start of the season in place of an injured Darren Sharper and had four tackles and a first quarter interception.
WR Robert Meachem had two big plays on the day for the Saints. Meachem had a second quarter career-long 41-yard rush that helped set up New Orleans’ second touchdown of the game. His fourth quarter 27-yard touchdown reception from Brees gave the Saints a 28-17 lead.
TE Jeremy Shockey caught a pass for the 104th consecutive game, the second-longest active streak among tight ends in the NFL behind Atlanta’s Tony Gonzalez (141). Shockey had three receptions for 42 yards.
TE Dave Thomas led the Saints with five receptions for 45 yards, tying a career-high in catches.
WR Devery Henderson had four receptions for a team leading 72 yards
Jahri Evans has now started 57 consecutive games at right guard for the Saints to start his career, tying T William Roaf for the most consecutive games by a Saints offensive lineman to open a career. The games started streak is tied for fourth in club history among all Saints.
