Saints Slip to #2 in Most Power Ratings...

The Colts have replaced the Saints in most power ratings by beating the Patriots.
As I said in another thread, it turns out that the Saints are playing the second easiest schedule in the league based on win loss percentages. The Saints barely beat the Rams, can't stop the run effectively, have mounting injury problems and are turning the ball over way too much. Hardly something you would expect from the #1 rated team in football.

So who's EARNED the right to be rated the best team as of Week 11?
Look I know it doesn't matter, but it's still fun to ask and talk about.

not i said the fly

not me said the flea

it must be you said the emu?

i stink at rhyming....anyway

we shouldnt be ranked #1.......both of the undefeateds barely pulled out wins but the media rides the pats so hard that the colts victory over them has to put them ahead of us

Hey, I just wanted to post my avatar again and need a reason.

The Vikings are off to an early 3-0 lead. Maybe I should have reworded this thread.

Just by virtue of the teams played I would put Indy at #1. But we'll see when all the rankings start coming out. The week we beat the Pats to stay undefeated we had better be #1! :-D

Re: Saints Slip to #2 in Most Power Ratings...

Given recent performance, I think the Saints record of 9-0 is better than the team really is. Both the Carolina and the St. Louis games showed that the D is way soft right now. We need the starters to get healthy... quickly!

I want the winning streak to go on as much as anyone, but I think if something doesn't change, the Patriots are going to beat them badly.

If the Colts are ranked higher than us in February does that mean they get home field in the Super Bowl?

Here's what is truly up: with up to 5 defensive starters hurt we sill have:

-a 4 game division lead (our magic number is 3, baseball fans)
-a 3 game lead for a first round bye (truly astounding)
-and a one game lead for HF throughout the playoffs (suck it Brett)

I hope we are #2 after the Colts win.

Obviously we are too good to be "under the radar", but I'd rather see someone else pack around the "best team in the NFL" ranking (for what it is worth in Week 11 = 0) for a while.

Re: Saints Slip to #2 in Most Power Ratings...

This Sunday I was kind of torn between the Saints fan in me who wanted them to win the game no matter what vs wanting the Rams to win so a) the natl media would turn its undivided attention to the Colts and the Farves, and b) more importantly, so the offense can refocus and realize they cannot be making the type of mistakes they are making and still win the game.

Are the Saints "as good as their record"? Well, the record doesn't measure how "good" you are. It measures how many games the team has won. Obviously, that doesn't mean they are better than or will surely beat a team that's 8-1, 7-2, 6-3, 5-4, etc. In 2002 the Bucs won the SB, yet the Saints swept them that year. Whether the Saints were "better" than the Bucs didn't matter. What mattered is that the Bucs won the games they needed to win.

3 more wins = playoff spot clinched

4 more wins (no matter how ugly/pretty) = NFC South champs and almost guarantees a bye week.

Probably need 6 more to all but guarantee HFA.

Saints What If?

+360 Saints
+385 Colts
+650 Patriots

I voted that we are the best team. Our record indicates we know how to win...no matter how ugly. Even the strong come back by Peyton and the Colts doesn't make them better than the Saints...we played a prettier game than they did but it was still ugly.

Pats game is going to be a great measuring stick. But for that one coaching blunder they would have beat the Colts. Now they are going to have a second chance to upset and unbeaten team on National TV. Best believe we're going to get their best shot.

Who cares... We are 9-0 and that is all that matters in professional tackle football.

This is just a hear say but I head that the Super Bowl Champion is crowned when they win the Super Bowl game not a gay power ranking.

Doesn't surprise me at all. We aren't playing like the best team in the league right now.

I'd say the Colts, Vikes, AND Pats would kick our ass the way we've played the last 4 weeks.

If we don't get our act together, the Bucs may do some kicking this weekend.

No its not. 9-0 doesn't mean squat. The don't give out the trophy to a 9-0 team. its about the Superbowl and nothing else.

9-0 MEANS NOTHING, other than we can't lose 9 games.

Hey, You are right... can't argue that point at all just gives a bit of a head start to get into the play offs really. We could still be watching every other team in the post season except us.

And they don't choose the Superbowl participants based upon the opinion of guys who mostly scream at the camera like they are selling used cars.

The difference between the best and the worst in the NFL is a very slim margin.

A win is a win. Nine wins in a row is a major achievement. The difference in a close game with the Rams and a blowout is two plays.

In South Park terms, Power Rankings are Gay and the people who write about them are Fags (not homosexuals, though they may be that as well, I can't care less about that.)

When did this cirjirk become a cottage industry?

Titans were 13-0 and one and done in the playoffs

We need to be hot in Dec and Jan

The Cardinals were 9-7 and made it to the SB

There is no fine line from the best NFL to the worse NFL team???
What is that. The best team in the NFL are 9-0 both those teams are 8 games better than the worse teams in the NFL. Thats pretty decisive. Granted a 1-8 team could bite one of the 9-0 teams but when you count W-L there is no chance of polls getting it wrong or showing favor-ism. Thats the beauty of NFL football a win is a win is a win. They can't take it from you and it sets you apart.

I don't know. What does Brees being picked the Fedex air player of the week mean? Sharper being picked for the Pro Bowl? Nothing really in terms of a Superbowl. The general public thinks highly of Brees and Sharper. They had good seasons or a good week. Pretty much the same with power rankings. Does it really annoy that many people?

The FedEX player of the week money goes to Drew's Foundation. Thats a good thing.

Re: Saints Slip to #2 in Most Power Ratings...

Im not concerned with the power rankings. As a long time fan, I'll admit that I like seeing the Saints get some love after all these years but I like to take baby steps (game at a time). First things first..make the playoffs. Secondly, lock in HFA if possible. If that involves going 16-0..great. That would be nice but I would rather maybe finish 13-3 or 14-2 and go into the playoffs living up to our potential on both sides of the ball than limp through a relatively weak remaining schedule playing sloppy turnover filled football and finish the season undefeated at the top of those power rankings.

The rankings are what they are. In the end you still have to play the game. I just hope that N.O is firing on all cylinders when they do.

rich006 11-18-2009 01:10 PM

Re: Saints Slip to #2 in Most Power Ratings...

-The value of the 9-0 record is the increased chance of getting HFA in the playoffs.

-The reason the Saints are the SB favorites in Vegas right now is they have the easiest path to get there by far: they are in the lead for HFA right now with an easy schedule ahead, and the playoff competitors in the NFC are a little weaker than those in the AFC. In a head-to-head line, I doubt the Saints would be favored over all of those AFC teams, but they are more likely to get there than any of the AFC teams.

-Would anyone bet on the Colts if they played the Patriots again this week? I wouldn't. The Patriots are playing the best football in the NFL right now despite Sunday night's outcome. Both teams are playing better than the Saints the last few weeks. Hopefully that will change.

This is just karma paying us some good back after many many years of tuff luck :-)
So what is better? Having more wins than one deserves, or more losses?

I still see the Saints as the Team to beat in the NFL. And I see the Saints are still No. 1 in most Power Rankings. I never cares for Power Rankings, we have some sloppy play of late, but we keep winning. We'll be fine. Stop the turnovers and we will be back!

First off, the spread is how Vegas gets fools to bet money on both sides of a game.

If there were a clear delineation between football teams then one would expect those who pick games every week to have high percentages of correct picks. We all know that isn't true.

And the importance of injuries to single players in the NFL is further proof of the slim margin between teams.

The Saints lose Sedrick Ellis and the run defense suddenly suffers. Games in the NFL are very often decided by a single mistake. At other levels of football the disparity in teams allows the good teams to make multiple mistakes and still win easily.

If there is such a wide difference in teams I challenge anyone to pick all 13 games this week to prove it. Anything less than 10-3 picking games would be abysmal if there truly is a big difference in teams.

It should be obvious who will win every game.
