Tell me how spoiled i am

Im one of the younger posters here.....i dont remember the dome patrol or the cajun cannon....i never got to see archie darting balls all over the field

i never got to see the historically bad seasons with the fans wearing bags on their heads and pretending to root for the other team just so you wouldnt look like a stupid aints fan

my saints memories have been fairly pleasant

after all the 3-13 seasons and numerous 8-8 and 7-9s i cannot imagine ever wanting to wear a bag over my head even tho we have been conistantly mediocre in my lifetime

so tell me something i dont know about you guys as young saints fans.....share a couple memories that werent so pleasant but lookin back, it made you the saints fan you are today

I became a fan of the Saints when I was 10 years old in 1986 which was Jim Mora's first year as head coach. I had been a Steelers fan up to that point (big fan of Bradshaw, Stallworth, "Mean" Joe Greene, and Franco Harris). I honestly don't remember what got my infatuation for the Saints franchise started, but it just continued to get stronger every year. I was growing up while the Saints were growing as a team by watching The Dome Patrol, Bobby Hebert, Morten Andersen game-winners, Eric Martin, and Dalton Hilliard. I've only been a die-hard fan for 23 years, but there isn't another team I could devote myself to as much as I do the Saints.

I became a Saints fan when yall drafted Donte' Stallworth and been hooked ever since. Yall have traded or let go of my favorite players (Stallworth, Bentley, Karney) but I love this team with my whole heart because this team is really different then others. Another reason was because I always root for the underdog and since when I started watching you wasn't that great I figured might as well :P. My biggest memory outside the ATL game last year was watching the game versus the Jaguars and Carney missing the PAT. I cried for 2 horus. I aint gonna lie :)

Have been around the board with other names for awhile ... AsianCajun ... but not really posting. I don't get much of a chance to see the Saints because I'm on the road ALOT and in China most of the time ... not many NFL games shown in CHINA much less Saints games. But now I have Direct TV Super Fan and Internet Radio and this board so I have everything and I'm fine now ya Sha.

Went to the very first Saints game at Tulane Stadium in 1967 and attended regularly for many years until I started working in Asia. My dad had season tickets for many years and we drove from Lafayette for the games and listen to Hap Gaudy on the trip back home. And we believed!! Been thru all the phases and stages, ups and downs ... more downs than I care to remember ... but I've always wanted nothing but the best for the Saints and "THE SAINTS FAITHFUL".

Finally it looks as though the whole organization, top to bottom and front to back, is hitting on all cylinders. And all I gots to say is WHO DAT SAY DE GON BEAT DEM SAINTS!!!!

Dis Cajun gon be watching the Saints beat Dem Patriots come Monday night!!!!
Yes Sir I garontee.

...See signature.

But seriously, my fondest Saints memory is September 2 , 2006. However, I was already this way before that. I suppose I got this way because I would watch the games with my dad and he liked to wear his 91 division champions shirt. I think that probably got translated somehow in my subconscious to mean "They were good once, so they can do it again." My first Saints game (and first football game) also happened to be an exciting OT win vs the Seahawks, so that got me pumped.

And sadly, I too was born too late for the bags, and was too young to know what the Dome Patrol was until after they were gone.

Some of the older members here remember you in your pink Speedo. You needed a bag on your head then. :D

I started watching Saints football during the Dome Patrol days and lived through all the bad times after that (after all I'm still considered a young buck myself). One thing that is pretty lame but I thought was so cool was the fact we had anything but generic football names over the years. Hoby Brenner, Vince Buck, Toi Cook, Gene Atkins, Brett Maxie, Renaldo Turnbull, Ironhead Heyward, etc. Even during the bad times, we had some really good players to be proud of and watch such as Kyle Turley, Willie Roaf, and Joe Horn to name a few. And while we were bad, you couldn't help but continue watching because there were so many talented players on our roster... we just couldn't get good coaching. I kept watching because I felt we could turn the corner, it just so happens we never did until now.

I'm SF'76 because I was born into a family of New Orleans and Gulf Coast resident Saints fans. Gathering around the TV for Saints games was a tradition before I knew what football was.

I really caught on in the late 80's and can remember wondering why teams like San Fran were so good... and why did my team have to suck? lol

At the end of high school and early college I sold programs at Saints games for the free ticket, but even halfway through the first quarter we could get into pretty good seats.

I was in the Dome for the first playoff win in history. I was there for the re-opening of the Dome vs ATL (great seats). I've taken many friends, family members, girlfriends, clients from all over the US to get a taste of my favorite city and favorite franchise.

This team means more to me that football. It's a part of my life, my family and growing up. To this day, there is a group of us who always make the first home game in NO - now about 12 guys.

I feel fortunate to have the ability to visit N.O. as often as I do. For those of you who can't experience the city like me, let me just tell you that there is a feeling in the city around Saints games that you can get from 5 hand grenades. I love it.

(edit)
I'm taking my Dad to the game this Monday Night and hoping that the streak will continue...

WHO DAT!!!!

this is something you might not really think about but since im up north with you and had to deal with it, you need to seriously be thankful for the sites like this one and all the internet brings to us. After moving to WV from new orleans in the late 80s my only saints knowledge was football cards, sportscenter, and maybe 2 or 3 games a year that were televised.

Granted i was 11 years old at the time and didnt follow them as religiously as i do now, but there was nothing on our boys up here. Then when i started using the internet i used to sit and watch espn.com or nfl.com update the stats and move the little helmet back and forth to show possession and field position. theres nothing worse than watching billie joe tollivers stat line for 3 hours straight.

now, not a day goes by that i cant look at news articles from the TP, stream the game on sundays, and talk with you guys about whats going on. add the fact that this is the best saints team we've ever had, its a good time to be a saints fan.

Late 1970s for me.

All the "adults" in the family watched the Cowboys at the time since they were more successful. I liked them OK, too, and the Cowboys were #2 for me until Jerry Jones bought them.

I guess I got old enough (and brave enough) to steal the remote away long enough to follow the Saints in the 78 and 79 seasons. although northern LA TV covered Dallas about as much as the Saints.
