We're not a team of destiny

I don't like that phrase "team of destiny" to describe the 2009 Saints. To me, that implies that we have some deficiencies, but we overcome them with heart and perseverance. We're playing above our talent level. We're "the little engine that could." Maybe that describes the 2006 Saints, playing off the emotion of the first season back in the Dome but ultimately got outmatched by a more talented team (did I just call the Rex Grossman lead Bears talented?!?!?). This team is just good! Plain and simple. In every phase of the game - from the coach to the punter - we're just better than everybody else. That's why we have won, that's why we will win. Brees chasing Marino's records, Bush trying to have a break-out season, fans hungry for a winning team - all that takes a back seat to the fact that we can just outgun, outmuscle, outcoach, and outscore any other team in the league this year.

Yeah, screw that.
We now have guys that make plays, lots of them. Jenkins played well, MM, of course, pick a name out of a hat on offense, Morstead, even PP and Roby on ST.
All 47 brought it. The stats are just sick, especially with top 3 CB's out, no Bush or Moore, and Shockey reduced to a blocking role (where he was great, BTW).

Re: We're not a team of destiny

agreed: team of execution, not destiny.

I would love to be mentioned with 72 Dolphins or 85 Bears after this season. But 10 years from now I would prefer to be mentioned with 70's Steelers, 80's Niners, 90's Cowboys, or 2000's Patriots. But hey, one game at a time, right?

Re: We're not a team of destiny

You build great teams one week at a time and the Saints are building something great right now. Hopefully the team is planning to take it one game at a time and not take any opponents as an easy game.

Re: We're not a team of destiny

Like Drew said in post-game, the Patriots win feels good but doesn't entitle us to anything. I'd also prefer to leave the 'destiny' term alone until the off-season.

This team is scary good. The old saints would find a way to lose the new saints find a way to win when they aren't firing on all cylinders. And when they are firing they do what they did last night and deliver BB and Brady a good ol fashion a** whoopin
