I thought there was way too much of a positive vibe, so here is my little cloud of negativity (and maybe reality) :

-Poor Tackling, epitomized by MM miss in the red zone when the game was still on the line, and also what seemd like every play on 1st drive

-Ellis' fumble. Wow, that was dumb (Vilma PF not great)

-SP's Challenge. Wow, I though Sed's play was dumb

-Run D. Why did that genius Belichick abandon the run? They were killing us early on

-Blown coverages. Lot of new faces, but Brady was a 1/2 second away from a lot of long ones. That overthrow early in the 3rd was scary

agree on all points. Nothing wrong with working to get better when there is room to improve.

This was the best game ever played by the New Orleans Saints in my opinion. But I agree with every one of the points ScottF made.

.. MM was on his couch watching TV 2 weeks ago, and had a great game. He had one mis-tackle where he bounced off a bigger guy, but it wasn't like he tried to arm-tackle the guy.

Ellis is a young guy who got over-excited in a huge game. When he's been there, he's played very well.

SP's challenges, and other coaches' challenges for that matter, are not always about trying to get the call reversed. Sometimes the coach may feel that he needs to call a time out to "calm things down", or get a play in, or even give the players a breather... may as well challenge something if you are going to use the time out. In the case of Ellis' fumble, he could've simply wanted to stop for a sec so the defense and especially Sedrick may get a moment to get his head back in the game after that mistake.

The genius abandoned the run because, if you haven't noticed the past 11 games, while teams are able to run the ball early, the Saints D shuts them down in later quarters.

Blown coverages.. you got to be kidding... you got 2 guys playing corner who 2 weeks ago were watching games on TV and a rookie coming in the nickel, and they stopped Brady-Moss-Welker.

Carney, nothing new.

I'm just curious, they said that our nickel corner went out with an injury in the first half. I'm assuming they were talking about Gay. Any word on his status for Sunday?

Actually the genius got away from the run because it is hard to try to run when it is 17-7 with 2 min in the 2nd quarter. Maroney had 15 carries for 64 yards. Maroney averages 10.9 carries a game, so they didn't really abandon the run

The tackling was better than what I've seen from most teams around the league this year. They did a great job limiting yards after catch by the receivers.

Blown coverages? No way. Considering the opposition and the injuries to the CB's, it was a spectacular performance.

the patriots just dont run the ball......they are a passing team and they run 2 plays

i agree with everything scottf was upset about

sean payton is known for blowing challenges but i truely believe he is one of the few coaches in the league that likes to take advantage of them.....he challenges almost everything that is questionable just in case.....after all, the only thing we lose is a timeout but the positives of what we could gain are almost always better than having a timeout

im not trying to say its ok to blow challenges and timeouts.....but remember that he doesnt get to look at the replay....the people in the booth look at the replay and if its close enough, they tell him to challenge....i also imagine sometimes that he challenges all by himself without recommendation from the booth....the commentators and the fans look at the replay and say, how could you possibly think that you could win that challenge, but only getting to see it once at full game speed is sometimes not the easiest way to judge what happened on any given play

the most important thing to remember is that we played a team game.....our team played well in all areas and nit-picking is all that we can do at this point

but im amazed that john carney still has a job.....even jason elam got cut today.....and he's done better than carney has this season....whats even worse, is that we dont have to go out and get a kicker.....we already have a good one on our roster
