? XI I MCMLXVI? That cant be right. the LXVI at the end reads "66." I know English is your subject, but I also
know you speak Latin, so I'll bet you know how Roman numerals work.
Help me to understand.

I've never heard it called "crayfish" south of Missouri.

The SAINTS were "born" November 1, 1966. Alvin "Pete" Rozelle awarded a franchise to New Orleans. It was All-Saints day thus the name...later Houstonian, John Mecom, Jr. was named owner... he was a rich kid whose dad made the family fortune in oil...or as it was also called at the time "black gold" thus the colors!

Oh, ok... I was going for 1967, their inaugural season. Here's one for you.
Did you know that big pretty lit up fountain here in Houston at the junction of Main & Montrose (by the Museums) is the "Mecom Fountain?"
It is named for John Mecom, but I dont know why. It Probably has something to do with money. I just realized it could be named for his DAD--- J.M. Sr.

Ed, do you know any artists who could draw a caracature of me? (yes, I know I am a caracature already.) I need one of those really simple type, trademark ones, like Jay Leno has . Maybe one of your schoolkids, could eschew spray-painting the wall for a day, and try working with paper?

I will check on the caricature.

It is the Mecom Fountain because it is across the street from the Warwick hotel. The urban legend about old man Mecom is that he worked late one night and didn't want to drive all the way home. He tried to check in at the Warwick only to be told that there was no room at the inn. He then asked, "If LBJ walked in right now, would you have a room for him?" The manager replied, "But of course!" Mecom Sr. then said, "Well, he 'ain't' comin'...I'll take his room!" The manager apologized and told Mr. Mecom that they really didn't have a room. Mecom asked the manager to wait a moment and ducked into a near by phone booth. (Ah, the days before cellular phones) He emerged about 45 mins. later and once again asked for a room, when he was turned down yet again, he loudly told the manager, "Yer fired!" The manager, with a condescending tone replied, "You cant fire ME!" The old man gave him a wry smile and quietly said, "Oh yes I can, I just bought this &%$@#^* hotel!"

Re: Incident at Woodrow's Yesterday

Thats why I keep you around-- for the great stories, your Popeness.
awesome. ---SuperDome, Pope of the Hou-Dats, ladies & gentlemen....
(applause/ tonight show music)

Hey, unfortunately the Warwick is no longer. It is now Zaza. which
sounds like something I'm not entering. I can tell you the Warwick was truly a classic grand hotel. I've done several gigs in the big ballroom, and not only was it lavish and ornate, but the view was 360 of the city lit
up, including a picture view of the skyline. I am richer for seeing the inside of the Warwick.

I had a friend ,who was a girl, who offered me a room there, whenever, but she was originally a request line caller, so I feared there would be strings attached.

Have you driven by there on Saturday? The Mecom Fountain is
probably the #1 photo spot for Houston brides. Every saturday, its
a parade of girls in white dresses. Its kind of comical if you catch it at
the right time. Normally it is taboo in the wedding biz to have your bride see another bride.

Check back here in a bit. Will post serious Hou-Dat business in a while.

Does nobody in the Houston area have a Pope hat?
