teams rest their players all the time and win games in the playoffs......the colts are the ones we remember because they are the big name team with the hall of fame QB that cant seem to win the big game in the playoffs

thats just a cliche....it has nothing to do with reality
I don't call it cliche, Giants didn't rest and go on to beat a 16-0 team in the biggest game ever.

Colts rested and only went on to the SB 1 out of 4 times.

I think the only reason people want to rest is to prevent injuries but injuries happen. The team is already sitting players with injuries and most not on IR will be back in time. Saints will be in good shape by then and have a week off already and just need to get hot and stay hot.

the giants were the better team.....and teams go to the playoffs nearly every season and make it to the super bowl only a handful of times....its not all that common to make a super bowl appearance and even more rare to win them....thats why they are the ultimate prize......its common sense that the healthiest team has the advantage

injuries do happen....and thats why the byes are crucial.....even the players that arent listed on the injury report are still beat up from playing a 16 game schedule......having an extra week off to heal up those unseen injuries would be a major advantage going into the playoffs

Re: rest or rust?

To Rest, or Not To Rest ...... That is the Question:
Whether it's nobler in the mind to keep blowing teams out,
The slings and arrows of the outrageous Breesus,
Or to take interceptions against a sea of really bad quarterbacks,
And by opposing end them? To win, to win big;
No more; and by two touchdowns to say we win and end
The heartache of Saints Fans and thousands of naturally shocked Dirty Turd Fans,
That flesh is heir to, it's a Superbowl Win
Devoutly to be wished; to win, to win big;
To win, perchance to visualize it; ay, there's the rub;
For in that win of the Superbowl
When we have stuffed the living daylights out of the Colts,
Must give us pause; there is the respect of the raucus Beagles fans,
That makes the Saints the Gods of the NFL;
For those who would hear the whiners and bear the frowners,
The referees are wrong, and Sean Payton is right,
The pangs of a defeated opponent, upon further review,
The insolence of the Cowgirls fans and their blown groceries,
That patient merit of these O Holy Saints,
When Breesus himself might his quietus make,
With his bare hands? Who would dare challenge,
The grunt and sweat of Vilma and Sharper,
But that the dread of getting beaten by two touchdowns,
The undiscovered country that is our endzone by our opponents,
No Wide Receivers allowed, puzzled they will be,
And makes us win real big the Superbowl,
To the amazement of others that we not know of?
Thus conscience does make referees love us;
And thus the natural born winners and champions,
Sicklied o'er with the pale cast of going for the jugular,
And enterprises of great pith and moment,
With great regard Roger Goodell hands us the trophy,
And lose forevermore the paper bags; Burn paper, burn.
The fair Golden Football! Beautiful it is in our hands,
All Saints sins forgiven and forgotten.

Re: rest or rust?

Call this what it is. It's not resting. Resting only takes 24 hours.

What you're talking about it "protecting the starters from injury". That's a slippery slope. You protect 5-6 guys, how about the other 15? How do they feel?

We NEED to learn to win under pressure, because the playoffs are 1 loss and go home. If we try our best to go 16-0, it gives us priceless practice playing under extreme pressure.

its both......resting is protection as well as resting

if you dont play then you cant get hurt......but if you're already hurt or banged up, the extra week is crucial

playing an entire 16 game schedule is also exhausting.....maybe the patriots just ran out of gas in the super bowl because they had played 19 games without rest

there is nothing bad that could happen from giving a player an extra week to rest and heal up....absolutely nothing....you say we rest maybe 6......well the other 16 guys that play offense and defense are not rusty at all(if they even could be).....those 6 players are not all going to be rusty......and if they are, they can be taken out and replaced by someone who wants to play hard

resting a few key players wont kill an entire team......it could only help

Re: rest or rust?

This is s team. The players should all sit or none of them sit.

Injured players should always sit as usual. If we ever get ahead 3 scores late in a game, the reserves should play.

but this isnt high school....everybody knows there are players that are more important to the teams success

and even in high school, when a team is up big you take your starters out and play the reserves......every level of football understands the idea of resting players

this is the greed of a saints fan coming out that calls for a 16-0 season

instead of wanting baby steps......working our way slowly into the top, impatience sets in and you guys want it all at once.....undefeated, first round bye, NFC championship and super bowl all in the same year

well that has happened once in NFL history..only once ever

you guys are using the colts to explain why resting is a terrible idea.....but only 1 team ever has finished the season completely undefeated.......going undefeated in the regular season almost guarantees us to not make the super bowl or win it....history proves this

Re: rest or rust?

It's looking like a moot point because of...

THE GREEN BAY PACKERS!

The Pack keeps winning. That pressures the Viqueens, who due to a sweep of the Pack, have a virtual 3 game lead. The Vikes will keep winning, which means that the Saints have to win too.

So at absolute worst we're talking about week 17 on the road against the Panthers.
