With s Saints win or tie, or a Minnesota tie or loss on Monday night would clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC for the playoffs and home field advantage for the postseason for New Orleans.
If the Saints win, it would extend their record in the series against the Buccaneers to 22-14 and improve their record against Tampa Bay in games played in the Louisiana Superdome to 13-7.
A win would close out New Orleans’ record at the Superdome in 2009 to 7-1, giving the Saints their first seven-win season at home in club history.
The Saints have eight defensive touchdowns in 2009, the second-highest total in club history. With one more, they would tie the club record of nine set in 1998. With a total of nine return scores, the Saints are currently tied for the 14th highest total in NFL history With one more return touchdown, they would be tied for seventh place all-time.
With 201 touchdown passes, QB Drew Brees is tied for 29th all-time with Roman Gabriel. With one more, he would move into sole possession of 29th. With two more, he would move into a tie for 28th with former Saint and fellow Purdue University alumnus Jim Everett. Brees has 33 touchdown passes on the season. With two more, he would tie the club record of 34 he set in 2008. Brees and Aaron Brooks are tied for second in club record books with 38 wins as a starter for the Saints. If the Saints win Brees will move into sole possession of second in the category.
With 32 total touchdowns, RB Reggie Bush is currently ranked eighth behind teammate WR Marques Colston and former Saints RB Tony Galbreath who are tied for sixth with 33. Bush has 17 rushing touchdowns to rank ninth on the club’s all-time list. With one more touchdown, he will move into a tie for eighth place with QB Archie Manning.
WR Marques Colston has 994 receiving yards in 2009. With six yards, he would reach 1,000 for the third time in four seasons. Colston also needs six yards to become the fourth Saints receiver to reach 4,000 for his career. Colston has nine touchdown receptions. With two more, he would tie the club record that he tied in 2007 and WR Joe Horn set in 2004.
LB Scott Fujita has two forced fumbles in 2009. With one more, he would tie his career-high set in 2007.
DE Charles Grant has 499 career tackles and needs one more to reach 500.
CB Jabari Greer has two interceptions. With one more, he would set a career-high.
WR Devery Henderson has 16 career touchdown receptions to tie with TE Dave Parks and WR Torrance Small for ninth on the club’s all-time list. With one scoring grab, he would move into sole possession of ninth place.
WR Robert Meachem has nine touchdowns on the season. With two more, he would move into a tie for the fifth-highest total in club history.
S Pierson Prioleau has 149 career special teams tackles. With one, he will reach 150 for his career.
With 11 interception returns for a touchdown, S Darren Sharper is ranked second all-time in NFL record books. With one more return for a score, Sharper will tie Rod Woodson for first all-time. Sharper currently has three in 2009. With one more, he would tie for the highest single season total all-time. Sharper has 62 career interceptions, the seventh-highest total in NFL record books (tied with Dave Brown and Dick LeBeau). With one more, he would move into a tie for sixth with Ronnie Lott. Sharper has eight interceptions in 2009. With one more, he would tie a career-high.
DE Will Smith has 48.5 sacks, the seventh-highest total in club history. With one more quarterback takedown, he would move into a tie with former black and gold DT La’Roi Glover for sixth. With two takedowns, he would move past Glover and move into a tie with former New Orleans DE Joe Johnson for fifth place.
