The New Orleans Saints will start Mark Brunell at quarterback on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, with Drew Brees serving as the team's emergency third quarterback.

The Saints will activate Chase Daniels from the practice squad and he will be Brunell's backup.

The 13-2 Saints have already secured the No. 1 see in the NFC playoffs
Excellent! That's a move that a smart organization that understands the ultimate goal makes. A organization that understands what an irrelevant games really means.

Playing your All Pro QB in a meaningless regular season game when the playoffs are looming is like throwing a ball across your body back into the middle of the field... in both cases only bad things can happen.

Play every backup and young player. Play only starters that cannot be replaced (receivers for example) or who have not played in the last month (Greer).

Heck, the Saints may still win the game. You never know.

But you do know that your starters will be ready come the weekend of January 16th.

Smart move SP. Smart move.

Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

If they do ... this might bode well for our Superbowl run!

A couple of you said it right keep the key starters out. It is basic strategy get these guys healed and rested and don't pick up any new injuries. Sometimes in these games a few back-ups stand out which can help down the road. Not to mention it will be cold in Charlotte, they say the low 30's. I know we have no choice but to go with Brunell, well you'll see soon enough.

I don't know about not playing him at all. I think I would have rathered to see drew go out there atleast for a few series and put together some good drives and get some points out of it with the starting O. But than again this is a meaningless game, so hope this is the right call coach. Anyone know if greer is going to shake off some rust this week?

Dude, i'm down with sitting drew, and other starters. I don't give a stink about records or other crap right now. I want the our players with the ring at the end. But, this sucks dropping three games at the end.

It's WhoDatDieHard's first post.

I thought this would be like a preseason game. We shall see. 1-3 in December never looked so good.
We're flying under radar at 13-2. LOL

I wouldn't count on Brunell having even a decent game. I'm more interested in seeing what Chase Daniel has. I don't care if the Saints finish 14-2 or 13-3, but I would like to see the Saints beat Carolina with a practice squad QB!
