Saints can solve all problems

Saints can solve all problems
By ED CULLEN
Advocate staff writer

Writing this before the next Saints game, I can’t know if the Saints will win and keep New Orleans’ recovery spirits alive or lose and deprive the city of its reason to go on living.

That is the problem with placing the future of your city in the hands of football players who, try as they might, cannot repair levees fast enough.

Even fair-weather Saints fans had begun to believe that the Saints wouldn’t lose another game, become the champions of the National Football League, get us out of the Middle East, balance the budget and reduce unemployment by training job seekers to play on the teams that lose all their games to the Saints.

The day after the Saints won the Super Bowl, global warming, to everyone’s surprise but El Rushbo, would end as hell began to freeze over.

As the years passed and New Orleans’ record ran to 310-2 (they would no longer play the Dallas Cowboys or the Tampa Bay squad for fear of bringing back war and disease), the world would be a pretty neat place.

World Regent Barack Obama would have little more to do than ride through far-flung cities flinging New Orleans Saints caps and jerseys to the throngs. Saints gear would reach the rest of the world via U.S. Air Force bombers converted to flying warehouses filled with black and gold clothing, footballs and beer koozies.

The Only Real and True Leader would be His Quarterbackness Drew Brees, distinguished by his gold cape and black and gold loafers.

Emperor Drew would be a kindly, wise ruler who would always make us mindful that life is lived one day at a time, just as football games are played one game at a time.

He’d be on pretty strong drugs knowing that the Saints could easily drop to 310-3 if they took their next opponent lightly or stopped trying to work out the glitches that allow them to lose to 2-12 teams.

Emperor Drew, thanks to advances in organ, muscle and brain transplantation, could play another 100 years, but to keep the world from ceasing to move forward, the Saints would clone His Drewness.

The Drewoids might work as magazine clothing models until called upon to keep the Saints winning and the world moving forward.

Shouldn’t we pay attention to climate change, a world economy not propped up by Saints athletic gear and education beyond learning to face in the direction of New Orleans to chant “Who dat? Who dat? Who dat talking ’bout beatin’ dem Saints? Who dat?”

Well, we could, ye of little faith, but look at New Orleans and what the Saints have done for the Crescent City.

Remember: Failure to register as replacement players on the losing teams could result in the loss of Saints gear, as well as your free subscription to the NFL Network.

I think he raises an excellent point and I don't see how he's hating on the team at all. He is taking a poke at the city of New Orleans, but let's face it, he's not exactly wrong.

You're wrong. He makes NO EXCELLENT points, name ONE! That it's the burden of the City of New Orleans to fix "climate change", "world economy" and "education"? I think not!

He's NOT hating on the football team, he's hating on the people of the City of New Orleans, which is pretty low.

He's doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground about the Saints, nor did he ever care about them, nor was he in New Orleans when Katrina happened or had to rebuild his life after. He doesn't do crap to "rebuild levees", he just trashes the city and it's culture when the team loses games.

He's just a loser trying to take a swipe at the PEOPLE and the City, not the football team.

With all due respect, I think you're missing the point a little.

He's saying that the attitude of the town is too closely tied to the fortunes of a football team. Having a winning team is great, but it doesn't solve the rampant socioeconomic problems that have never been addressed, even before Katrina brought those problems to light.

I am not "hating" on New Orleans. I am a frequent visitor and I love the town. Many landmark moments in my life have happened in New Orleans.

But let's not pretend it's perfect.

First of all, anyone notice the guys name? Ed Cullen. If he's not a troll then he must catch all kinds of hell.

Second, I consider myself fluent in sarcasm, and even I think this is going too far. Some may take faith in the Saints to an extreme, but come on. No one actually believes this crap. This guy is being an ass.

Hey man ... I was not even born there ... (Paris, France) ... but New Orleans deserves a break from the country. My grandfather when he was alive used to tell me that those federally managed levees would be trouble one day. He used to be director of civil defense for the state of Louisiana (current day Fema). He said the only safe place is the French Quarter as it is the highest. The people of Louisiana are the greatest. It is a shame the politics have held us back as much as it has. Yes, I do consider myself a Louisianian since I moved there in 1978 from Paris. For those who haven't lived anywhere else, it is hard to imagine how differently things can be run. Because they can be run a whole lot better. But at least, the state is not bankrupt as California is. Louisiana is naturally rich with a plethora of natural resources and is geographically strategically located and thus we are taken for granted. It will take time, I believe. But it can happen. The change for the better Katrina forced Louisiana to do will in the end be a positive. For those who are riding out and are part the rebuilding, kudos. For those who needed to move "temporarily", like my wife and I, we'll be back. And we'll help in our own way. We'll need the governor's help too. And the mayor...and the people...and yes even Cullen's. Together, we can all make a difference.
