The Burning Question??

So im a defensive guy..thats my thing...so i want to know what ya'll think about us blitzing....do we or do we play it safe and hope our front four can generate enough pass rush on Warner?....I think we have to hope our front four does and we can drop back in coverage ...Warner can be lethal against the blitz..unless and this a big if..you rattle him early..thats seems to be the majic potion..Any thoughts..

Re: The Burning Question??

I think we need to pick our spots. Blitz less than we normally do and try to mix up the coverages. Zones with Jammed at the line.

strato 01-14-2010 04:16 PM

Re: The Burning Question??

Yeah confuse him with zone coverages..our front four really need to bring some heat..Its crucial..and i agree with your point..

Re: The Burning Question??

I think you have to keep him guessing. I think when you show blitz and you blitz, then sometimes you show blitz and back off, thats the key. Warner is smart. He is a solid quarterback, but much like Drew, when he gets rattled and feels like HE has to win the game, he starts forcing throws and makes mistakes.

Warner is not nearly as accurate as Brees, but I think you game plan for a quarterback that has similar strengths to Drew. Warner reads defenses well, is calm in the pocket, and has great vision. But he has the tendancy to force throws when he gets too confident or when he's playing from behind.

When Warner has a bad game...it's really bad. But when he gets on a roll watch out.

The Cards have plenty of offensive weapons, especially at WR. The defense MUST get pressure with the front four and produce turnovers to win this game. We need to score first and stay on top.

Re: The Burning Question??

Show blitz and bring it early on, jam the receivers at the line of scrimmage and keep their timing off. We can't blitz much from the middle because vacating a spot in the middle went very badly for GB, hopefully we can get pressure from the outside blitz. But most important is to get the pressure up front in the middle, don't give Warner a chance to step up in the pocket. If we do well with the rush we should own the Cardinals.

Re: The Burning Question??

Well, we can't let Warner pick us apart. Obviously pick our spots. I'm not sure if we want to blitz as often as we did in the Giants game, for instance. Blitz more when/if they get to red-zone, take our chances there.

Re: The Burning Question??

Blitz or no blitz if our front 4 can't get pressure every play by themselves we are going to be giving up yards.

Danny Cox 01-14-2010 04:45 PM

Re: The Burning Question??

The blitzing needs to be done in spurts early on until the Saints build up at least a two score lead. Once the Cards abandon the run and turn almost fully to the passing game then the blitz can be brought with 6, 7, or even sometimes 8 in the box.

As long as the CBs and safeties can hang for a good 2-3 seconds man-to-man then the blitzes will be successful because we won't have to worry about the run as much, if at all.

CantonLegend 01-14-2010 05:44 PM

Re: The Burning Question??

blitzing is much more efficient and effective when we know what they are doing

if we get a lead they will pass......thats when we should blitz

without grant and possibly mccray we will need to stack that side a little more to create enough pressure from warners front side

that way will smith will not get double teamed on the back side

we cant afford to have ellis and smith getting double teamed all game

harper is very fast off the edge and safety blitzes will be plentiful i think

the cardinals do not throw it to their TEs that much so blitzing harper will not effect our pass defense

the cardinals like to run double moves a lot.....the key will be preventing them from doing that by getting pressure to warner quickly

we cant allow him to sit back because he is as good as anybody when he has time to throw....and they have no problem max protecting with 2-WR routes because one of them will get open

Re: The Burning Question??

All good points and thanks..I would like to see an early all out blitz strip the ball..and take it to the house...Talk about rattle Warner...then D.Sharp gets a pick six from a rattled Warner...Y'all know we are capable of this..lets make it happen..

Danny Cox 01-14-2010 07:47 PM

Re: The Burning Question??

I honestly can see Sharper playing the spy role for a little bit to start the game and just sitting back in coverage around the middle of the field. Let the offense get some points on the board and then just biding his time and watching Warner's eyes until the perfect time to strike and pick one off.

Saint_LB 01-14-2010 07:54 PM

Re: The Burning Question??

If you can get pressure without blitzing...obviously that's the way to go. However, if you are blitzing and they are being picked up and Warner is burning us...then you better rethink your plan.

I guarantee a victory if we get to Warner often. If we send the house often with no success, then it may be a long day.

Re: The Burning Question??

i dont think our front 4 can generate enough of a rush. they havent done it very often. but with the return of porter and greer we can sacrifice a man in coverage and let them shoot a gap and rush. this was always effective. bringing harper back up to the line to blitz was what was driving qbs crazy. while porter and greer were hurt, harper didnt come in on many blitzs. in fact our defense starting looking vanilla. so i think the key is the fact that porter and greer are back. i think our D is going to surprise some people and return to the early season D

Re: The Burning Question??

if we give warner all day it will be real hard to cover fitzgerald for a long time and even breaston (hes pretty fast too). i dont care who you are, in man to man and with alot of time, you will get open at some point

Re: The Burning Question??

Cards fan coming in peace. Looking forward to Saturday.

Was reading this and we would love you to blitz. Old greybeard eats blitzs, he knows where the hole is and the ball is gone.

If you want to get to Kurt you need to it with 4, then you can cause problems.

As they say .. Live by the Blitz .. Die by the Blitiz

Though as Speedy said, if you give him all day you are dead as well

Nidan 01-15-2010 12:02 AM

Re: The Burning Question??

Breaston is the speed guy.

Fitz isn't that fast, just almost uncover able man to man. Just look at what he did to Woodson last week. Boldin is the YAC guy, like trying to tackle a Mac truck

Re: The Burning Question??

i know what all of you are saying is true blitz, don't blitz. if warner is still so dammed talented why are'nt they 13-3 ,14-2. they can be beat and they will be beat, i've said this earlier greg williams looks at tape with them and 49ers 2 games this year ,theres the way you kick there ass, and with a little of g. williams blitz packages

Re: The Burning Question??

Im sure our coaches are studying the 49s gameplan on them..that worked pretty good..didnt they sweep ya?

st thomas 01-15-2010 12:15 AM

Re: The Burning Question??

the 49ers did sweep the cards, and it was 20-16 and 24-9

Re: The Burning Question??

tell me about arizona's defense

everybody is worried about our defense stopping their offense....kind of reminiscent of the pats game......but nobody worried about how their defense would match up against our offense

the cardinals cannot stop us......not rushing or passing and thats why we will crush them

if we want to hold the ball, we can......if we want to score quick, we can.....if we want to lose this game, we will.....and thats the only reason we would lose

Re: The Burning Question??

GW comes from the Buddy Ryan tree. He will do just like Rex and Rob does showing blitzes but changing it so that you don't know who is actually coming. He will send 5 or 6 at times but which 5 or 6 will be the question.

Re: The Burning Question??

You know the more i thought about it last nite ..I think Zona looks at the game film and they try and do what a lot teams did this year..RUN THE BALL...It keeps Drew and co. on the sidelines and wears out our D..I think they might be in for a suprise being that we are healthy on D..Teams were not running on us like that when we were healthy...we shall see..

I also think that they will try and attack up the middle ..and try and take away Drews passing lanes..Thats where Reggie can really shine on those flares and swing passes..

Re: The Burning Question??

I say blitz like crazy. We know this is going a high-scoring back and forth game; if we give up a quick strike or two we will still be okay.

Warner is most dangerous when he goes through his reads. If he is pressured, he will only get one or two looks. If Greer can check Fitzgerald at the line, then there goes the first read.

Nice response, did I say anywhere where are unstoppable ?

I just I was reading on these posts here with the 'Lets blitz more' comments and I offered that the idea that this is a bad way to try an beat the Cardinals.

Yes I'm sure the coaches are studying that, but I thought Saints fans might appreciate some football info, guess I was wrong.

Re: The Burning Question??

Sheesh! Warner is no fool so he will expect mixed packages. I expect Warner to open up the game by intentionally using rushing plays to give him and the sideline crew an opportunity to observe the Saints' defensive packages and if they are giving anything WRs. The Saints will have to mix it up until Warner is unhinged. Who or what unhinges Warner first remains to be seen. The Saints getting a nice lead makes it easier.

dont trash talk away from home.....you'll get burned

no QB can handle pressure.....if any QB in the league gets hit enough they get riled up.....including your golden boy......

you played one team with a DE as good as ours.....and that team didnt blitz at all.....and their secondary is terrible

we blitz a lot.....and our DE, will smith, is a pro bowl talent and is among the league leaders in sacks......and your backup LT will hope the game is over after the first snap because it will be his fault that warner is picking grass out of his teeth

is there a single thing that the cardinals led the league in other than most bandwagon fans after a playoff game? clowns

i know you guys have short memories but the playoffs are more than 1 game....

make sure to come back and congratulate us on our teams victory
