Saints are 4-5, with little room for error; sound familiar? | thenewsstar.com | The News Star
With 10 teams lined up ahead of them in the NFC, the
Saints will likely have to win six of their final seven games to advance to postseason play. But the first problem facing them in that regard is they haven't won back-to-back games this season.
In addition, they blew another opportunity to get back to the .500 mark with a loss to the Atlanta Falcons last week. So instead of being in the thick of the NFC South race, the
Saints will have little wiggle room the rest of the way — starting with Sunday's matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs (1-8) in Arrowhead Stadium.
"Certainly during adversity, certainly during a 4-5 record right now, the values and what you believe in get tried and tested," said coach Sean Payton. "I think the guys in there are strong enough to answer the bell. Our coaching staff is strong enough to respond the right way. I think you'll see that.
"Our players collectively are going to have to suck it up this week and get ready to play a good football game on the road," he added. "That's not just the players, it's us as coaches, it's all of us handling this the right way. That's where it's at ... we're in a corner."
The bad thing is they have to start what they hope is a comeback on the road, where they've lost five in a row dating to the 2007 season finale at Chicago.
