Special Teams Aces, Cut 'em??

Is it just me or does it appear with all the injuries we have that it may be time to sign some skill position back-ups. I know McAfee and Gleason are awesome special teamers, but they don't contribute at their positions. If Al Everest is the great special teams coach everybody says he is (and I agree), why tie up roster spots with guys who's sole contribution is special teams? Sign a back-up corner and safety and RB that can also play special teams.
I may be all wet here but I'm curious. Can McAfee really play RB? Can Gleason really play safety? Is Fenderson worth a backup RB spot just because he's good on special teams?
How about Elphage and Kenny Watson? They both play positions we need as well as special teams. Is it time to re-think that philosophy?

Special Teams Aces, Cut 'em??

I have no real opinion here, as I\'m afraid that if I express it, the Saints will do the exact opposite.

But I would mention that special teams won the Carolina game last weekend. How to assess their value in light of other needs is hard to say ???

But is there really anyone left out there at corner, linebacker or DT that would be worth dumping quality special teams guys for?

As for Kenny Watson, I agree wholeheartedly. I think he is pretty much a \"must take\" for us to have quality depth at tailback. Of course by uttering the words, I\'m sure that Kenny Watson is going to be signed by Tampa or something.

Special Teams Aces, Cut 'em??

Let\'s put that fire out when it\'s burning. As long as we can put people on the field who play at their position and have one backup left at the position I am against cutting players who are actually playing on Sundays to make room for a backup who may or may not get in there. Having only two quarterbacks going into the season is a little overoptimistic and dangerous, but adding backups for special teams players seems overly pessimistic and may hurt the team just as much as when one of those players has to play on regular downs.
