Mike Bell tendered a low tender...

The Saints have extended a low tender to restricted free agent Mike Bell.

Though Bell was originally undrafted and would require no draft pick loss to sign away, teams are unlikely to be overly intrigued after his miserable finish to last year. He won't be guaranteed a spot on the Saints in 2010.

Saints Tender Mike Bell for 1 yr deal at lowest comp level

He may be gone IMHO. Someone will sign him away at that tender level. Another team would not have to give up a draft pick for him. San Diego anyone?

AT 26 YEARS OLD AND THE QUALITY OF FREEAGENTS AVAILABLE THIS YEAR BELL WILL REMAIN WITH THE SAINTS IN 2010. HIS ROLL WILL REMAIN THE SAME IF HE STAYS OR GOES. HE WILL NEVER BE A FEATURE BACK AS THEY CALL IT. HE'S JUST TO FAR ALONG IN HIS CAREER TO ESTABLISH HIMSELF AS THE MAN.

the 'undrafted' part doesn't matter, does it? just curious. we tendered PT at 2nd round status and he was undrafted

Good question Scott. Wish I had the answer but just when I think I have this uncapped year crap figured out, something like this pops up.

QBREES, HELP!!!

Seriously, I don't see Mike Bell coming back to the Saints, unless there is an injury situation at the position. He did play very well to start the season, but really did not hold up. I know he got injured and that was probably the cause of his decline. I really think Hamilton has pretty much earned the job of short yardage back.

I would like to see him back in the black and gold, but if someone else is willing to pay him well then good luck. Hamilton looked good in limited playing time, although so did Bell.

Saints make qualifying offer to Mike Bell (SUPER MERGE!)

Just when we all thought they might let him go and see what other running backs could be brought in; the Saints surprised us yet again.

With only a few days left for NFL teams to make offers to their restricted free agents before they are allowed to test the open market, the Saints have tendered an offer to running back Mike Bell.

Bell was offered the lowest compensation for restricted free agents which is one-year at $1.176 million. The Saints will have the right to match any offers made to Bell by other teams, but they would receive no compensation should he sign elsewhere.

Its a smart move by us, If someone wants to scoop him up they can, if not we get him on the cheap.

Re: Saints make qualifying offer to Mike Bell

The Saints can line up Thomas, Bush, Bell, or Hamilton as their lead back and be successful. The Broncos did it with their great blocking scheme and the Saints can do it because their runningback is simply not that important to the offense. An average NFL back can get it done in the Saints current offense. Coach Payton now understands how important defense is to a successful team and with the current need at DE, DT, and OLB, they will probably select a guy from one of those positions at #32. But, a RB that is more talented than the Saints current stable will fall to the 32nd pick. It will be interesting.
