Childress not quite over loss to New Orleans

INDIANAPOLIS — Give Brad Childress credit for being honest.

Sitting on the steps inside Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday, the Vikings coach was asked how long it took him to get over his team's overtime loss to the Saints in the NFC Championhips Game. "I'm not past it quite yet," Childress said.

The Vikings' 31-28 defeat in the Superdome occurred Jan. 24. Two days later Childress held his season-ending news conference, recounting the turnovers, the 12 men in the huddle penalty and Brett Favre's interception late in the fourth quarter with the Vikings driving. Friday marked the first time Childress had spoken to the media since.

"[It's] not like you sit up straight in bed and scream, but it was disheartening and you can probably take that all the way across the organization," Childress said. "Every player, every coach, every strength person. You get that far [and lose], it kind of takes a little something out of you."

Childress and his coaching staff did not attend the Senior Bowl because it fell during the same time period as the conference title game. Thus, the combine is his first chance to get around other NFL personnel. He said that's a good thing because it makes him realize just how well the Vikings performed en route to going 12-4.

"I'm being facetious when I say this to you," Childress said, "but if I read everything that you guys wrote and listened to everything that was said, I wouldn't think we were able to break the huddle and walk to the line of scrimmage before the snap. We had a great year. It's not until you get around your peers and the general managers and the people that do what we do for a living that you feel that as a group. ... You feel a little bit more worth."

I'm sure it's something he will never get over. He reallizes how hard it is to get that far, and how even harder, it is to repeat that process. It took the saints four years, to get back to that point, and he knows that Favre, no matter how bad he might want too, will not be around that long. Jackson, and Rosenfels are not the answer either. Best advice I could give to the Vikes is.... Draft a quarterback. Sooner is better than later with QBs, because he will take time to develop.

Oh FFS, shut the hell up already! Childress, every dumb*ss on the Vikings roster, MN fans, all the experts riding Favre's cack.

Get the f*ck over it. You lost. Move on with your pathetic lives and stop your God Damn sniveling and whining. I've never seen a bigger group of p*ssies at one time.

This is nothing new for Vikings fans. I remember when they lost to the Falcons, at HOME, in 1998. They didn't stop talking about that, til probably sometime right after we beat them this year! Same scenario, in the respect that they lost in overtime, in that game as well! I seem to remember alot of the same talk back then as well. "The refs screwed us. They didn't want us to win. We were the better team."

These guys are just so used to getting there, but NOT finishing, that I honestly don't know what they would do, if they actually won. Always have an excuse for it too. It's never that the other team was just better. Typical Vikings bs. It won't ever change.

They've blown it so many times you'd think those Purple People would be accustomed to it by now.

They are the Bills in a different uniform but they talk funnier than those frozen fans in UpState New York.

I don't really care what Childress thinks.

I hope this loss stays with him throughout the next season and it clouds his coaching judgment more than it already is. I would not be upset if the Vikings went in the tank next year.

Yep, when I think of Favre with his pants on the ground, it makes me smile. Payback for that year (I think 9 or 10 seasons ago) that the people eaters kept us from advancing in the playoffs. Do I feel sorry for them.....about as sorry as they felt for us back then. ;)

He's boo-hooing as if the NFL has gone out of business and there will never be a football game played again. Dude, next year is a new year. This was the Saints' year and there really wasn't anything anyone could've done about it. I mean...

Folks, I know we are all tired of seeing the purple tears, but I don't see what is wrong with what Childress said. He isn't blaming anyone or crying about the refs. He just said it hurts to lose.
Too bad Vikes fans can't show the same class

The only class he had is long gone.
Slim and none... and slim just left town, is more like it.

Never liked that douchebag.

Me neither. I will never forget the horror as a kid when I found out what my mother did with that thing hanging from the door of the bathroom closet...

Minnesota would have never beaten the Colts. Enough said.

I'm beginning to think it's a sickness. Vyqueen CryWhining Syndrome. It's terminal. It's what 0-4 looks like.
