Saints’ Scott Fujita Wins Ring, Loses Nike Deal

by Colleen Canty on Feb 10, 2010 1:53:21 PM

The New Orleans Saints were crowned champions, but the successful season was not enough to keep Nike from dropping linebacker Scott Fujita’s endorsement deal.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the company dumped the defender for wearing tape on his shoes which covered the Swoosh logo. Fujita reported the news in a diary he kept at the Super Bowl for the newspaper;

Low-point of the day: Not getting a Nike schwag bag in my hotel room. All the guys who are endorsed by Nike got sweet Super Bowl schwag, with about $5,000 worth of merch, including some products from their ACG line, which I love for hiking and for outdoor use. I was endorsed by Nike for seven years, but they voided my contract (after several warnings) for "spatting" my cleats on game-days. Some of us spat, or put tape around our cleats, to keep them tight. Nike, apparently, doesn't like that their precious Swoosh gets covered up. Oh well. Wouldn't be that big of a deal if it weren't for every teammate rubbing it in my face, parading around in all their cool new gear.

At least as a reparation to Nike’s wasted endorsement money, Fujita plugged their “cool new gear” and ACG line in his diary.

Maybe Nike will have better luck showing off their branding with top NFL draft prospect Ndamukong Suh, who signed an endorsement deal with the sportswear giant last week.

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Well Fujita, if you sign with Cleveland it really won't matter what shoes you wear because no one will be watching anyway.

That's how many "deals" Nike has out there.

When you can make a shoe for $7 and sell it for $100...

Exactly!
Each shoe is made for approximately $10-20, they sell that same shoe they had made and bought on Pennies on the dollar for a 400% markup..
That same material is used on mostly every shoe including cheaper brands yet your paying for a schwoosh mark and some expensive commercials that lie and target weak minds by getting marketing deals with big names..

Luckily i have direct connects to China's shoes imports and get all my shoes i like for the price the distributor gets em for.

..
Right-
a 'deal' is here is a bunch of free stuff for wearing shoes that aren't any different than any others except for the logo.

Then Nike says '54% of NFL players wear our cleats...'

BTW- did Bell lose his deal, or just his cleats?

I hope this doesn't negatively affect Fujita re-signing with the Saints.

WE could still use him for showing our young LBs (both Stanley Arnoux, and any we draft) the ropes.

This team (assuming our best FAs are locked up) is so close to being dominant. Please don't mess that up.

Get it done Loomis!

Why would Nike's action have anything to do with whether he stays with the Saints? I guess it could just put him in a bad mood.
