Billy, I hope you\'re right... but everything I\'m seeing is telling me that you\'re not. McCarthy\'s offense has lacked imagination since the second Atlanta game last season. Most football teams have streaks. Well, we\'re 5-11 in our last 16 (counting preseason). The defense, which was suspect to begin with, is now missing half of its starters. The offense has not been impressive in a while, and while I agree they are very talented, I continue to believe that they will not be as good as last year.

Yes, I HOPE that they get back on track against the Colts. However, the Colts are hot right now and we\'re flat. They\'re going to roll. Then we\'ll travel to Carolina to face a team that is starting to truly believe. We\'ll be demoralized and on a lossing streak. They\'ll probably still be in first place in the division. That game will make us 1-4. The Bears game should bring us to 2-4. Honestly, 3-5 at the break looks realistic to me right now.

Again, I hope I\'m wrong, but...

The season is still way to young to give up on this team. The end result of winning more games than you lose and getting into the playoffs while on a roll at the end of the year is what any team should hope for. Opening up 6-2 last year didn\'t prove anything nor will opening up slow this year. It\'s a long season. All 16 games count. Does anybody out there not think that with the parity around the league that most any of the middle of the pack to upper tier teams can\'t get on a roll playing well and post a streak of victories? I\'m sure the fans of teams such as the Packers, Raiders, and Falcons with 1-2 records are wondering why their team isn\'t playing better so far. The Saints are only 1 game out of first place in the division with 13 games left and a chance to beat each division member twice.

Have we played well to this point? No! One would be foolish not to recognize that if the team continues to perform all year as they have to this point the season will be filled with disapointment. A win this week will put the team at a .500 mark and gain the confidence needed to regroup, refocus, and make a run in the right direction.

I don\'t like the looks of our next 4 games, particularly if we play so flat. You\'ve got to figure that even Chicago has to win one game this year and we have a nasty habit of playing down the competition.

Although I did predict a 5-11 season in preseason, I don\'t consider myself giving up as I still hold out hope and pull for them each and every game. I want to be wrong but I haven\'t seen much to draw any other conclusions. Hoping against all odds perhaps the Saints can turn things around like they did in the 2000 season when they started 1-3 then finished in the playoffs. However their early losses in early 2000 didn\'t seem quite as dissmal.

Interesting take from the eyes of a Colts fan ....

Saints are playing in the 3rd & 4th quarters
In the first half this year their opponents have out-gained them 605 yards to 271, have run 33 more plays, scored 29 more points, averaged 2 yards more per play, scored 4 more touchdowns, and punted 3 less times.

They hit halftime and make changes...then...

In the second half[s] of their three games the Saints have almost completely reversed these numbers. They\'ve out-gained their opponent 526 yards to 320, have run 8 more plays, scored 18 more points, averaged 1.8 yards more per play, scored 2 more touchdowns, and punted 4 less times.

We need to get out to a good start and continue into the second half.
