new NFL rules?

i just caught a bit of jeff fisher talkin on NFL Network about some of the new rule proposals

lots of rules being thought about because of us

for instance, there was a play earlier in the season when we had a play overturned due to replay inside of a minute....it gave us good field position but didnt grant us a TD

with a stopped clock we were able to get up to the line and score a TD on the next play before half time

they are proposing a rule that if you need a replay to overturn a play inside the last minute of a half, there will be a 10 second runoff on the clock unless you call a timeout to nullify that runoff

also some dummy called out from the peanut gallery about our 2 pt conversion in the super bowl where lance moore crossed the plain but dropped the ball after it was kicked from his possession

fisher said something along the lines of a new rule being proposed about continuing a catch thru the play and that possession must be controlled throughout the play.

not exactly sure what that means but sounds like a lot of people are unhappy about the way we kicked other teams' asses

"deal with it or you can go play the saints and get trounced by 30 and you won't have to worry about it."-colin cowherd

Re: new NFL rules?

Is that all they talked about, all the different ways the Saints kicked everybody's @$$, and how to keep it from happening again?

Here's a new rule for the other 31 teams. You don't want the lowly WORLD CHAMPION NEW ORLEANS SAINTS to kick your @$$? Play better DEFENSE.

Re: new NFL rules?

That Lance Moore catch was payback 26 years later for a replay that robbed Eric Martin against the Giants back in the 80s.

We were rolling along, I think just clobbered Denver the week before, and Hebert chunks this perfect bullet to Martin into the Girod St. endzone---Score! And we're starting to look real good vs. the Giants.

Nope! wait... we have to crank up this damn replay, and sure enough, ran in super-duper stop in time slow motion cam--- the replay reveals that the outer electrons in the amoebic walls on the edge of the pigskin shifted positions .0000000001 microbits within Martin's hand 1/2 a flie's scrotum after the last proton of his right shoe crossed the edge of the white line.
He burned his guy. Hebert nailed it. He caught it. Ran thru the endzone. In anybody's backyard, thats a touchdown, now go catch the kickoff. Shut up and walk the field. But nooooo. We had to have all this crybaby replay crap.

When I was a kid, there was no replay. The ref threw his hands up one way or the other, and that was it. Move on to the next play. We did just fine without it. Before replay, when Eric Martin crossed the line with the ball in his hand you can now cheer. No waiting for anybody's verdict. See thats my thing with replay. CAn I cheer now? Oh no, wait, now we have to contest it. We have to scrutinize every electron, and hope the peep-show guys sees it our way. Nevermind its so close that he has to look at 26 times--- which directly violates the spirit of what replay was supposed to do.

I could live without replay. Replay is just a second chance for the officials to botch the call--- and it holds up the game and bores the crap out of my kids--- no wonder they watch wrestling. Just play ball. Backyard rules-- if you have the ball, you caught it, if you dont, you didnt. If you're past the goal line, you scored. If you dont want the other team to score, dont let em catch the ball past the goal line. Stop whining and play ball.

Some of my best friends disagree with me. Feel free to join them.

Re: new NFL rules?

oh yeah... and dont bring any new rules. Just play football the same way we always have. In fact, lets eliminate all rules created after 1976.

Football is fine like it is. Dont **** with it.

Re: new NFL rules?

Lance had possession and the ball crossed the goal line. That's a TD.

How about a rule that says it's illegal to kick the ball out of a players hands? Hmmmm?

How about that Jerry Rice catch where he fumbled short of crossing the goal line. Yet he was awarded a TD!

I don't see anyone stopping our offense next year either. And if our defense improves as we all think it will, then it won't matter if any of these rule changes actually come through.

Re: new NFL rules?

You know, I don't watch the NBA because it is SO painfully obvious the stars aren't playing by the same rules. It's blatant, beyond even the refs fixing the games.

I know in baseball you'll always have the strike zone issue, but that varies from player to player and ump to ump, so it is what it is...

But lately (or am I just getting older and seeing things differently) it seems the NFL is going out of its way to 'favor' the likes of Brady, Favre, etc. I hate to see this happening people.

Re: new NFL rules?

They have also kicking around the idea of penalizing the defense 15 yards if they intercept Farve or Brady or Manning. If it occurs within the last 2 minutes of the game, it is an automatic safety.
