Bring Back Jerry Glanville!
Or does anyone else have some coaching nominees NOT named Saban?

Would you want a coach who has to make a transition to the N.F.L. ???

Currently I would look at :

Al Saunders
Asst. Head Coach/Off. Coordinator

21st Year NFL Coach • 13th with Chiefs

Regarded as one of the most accomplished offensive minds in all of football with experience as both a head coach and offensive coordinator, Al Saunders enters his third season as assistant head coach/offensive coordinator for the Chiefs in 2003.

Gary Kubiak begins his 10th year as an NFL coach and his ninth season as Denver\'s offensive coordinator in 2003. He is coming off eight highly successful seasons in which the Broncos\' offensive unit has produced numbers unparalleled in the history of the organization, highlighted by back-to-back World Championships in 1997 and \'98.

Jim Schwartz enters his fifth season with the Titans and third as defensive coordinator. As the youngest (37) defensive coordinator in the league, Schwartz led the defense back into the NFL’s top 10, finishing 10th last season. Tennessee’s defense also continued its ferocious play against the run, finishing second in the NFL in rushing defense and extending its streak of eight consecutive seasons in the Top 10, which leads the NFL. The Titans defense has not allowed an opponent’s running back to surpass the 100-yard rushing mark in an NFL-high 21 consecutive home games.

Let\'s not forget Jim Tressel of OSU, Tyrone Willingham of Notre Dame and Denny Green. I like the Sanders pick, however, he would have to bring a BIG TIME D coordinator with him because of our weekness on D.

I don\'t know about Tressel, but OSU always seems strong.

Saunders certainly has a great offense with the Chiefs, but is that another situation where Vermeil is really the reason it is so good? Just look at what has happened to the Rams since Vermeil\'s departure.

I have to completely disagree about Willingham, though. What has he done that shows he might be able to take over an NFL team that Saban hasn\'t done better? I like Saban because he seems like a coach with a good mix of intensity and intelligence. But we\'ll have to wait to see how LSU performs the rest of the year. One thing the Saints lack, apparently, is a coach who can get his team ready to play EVERY game.

Dennis Green would be my first choice. All he did was lead the Vikings to playoffs nearly every year AND, if I remember correctly, they were competitive in the playoffs nearly every time. It takes a lot of luck to make it to the Super Bowl, and having an outstanding team isn\'t always enough. I think his record speaks for itself.

Don\'t take this as me giving up on Haslet and Co, yet. If he can get this team turned around, then his value as a head coach will be proven. However, that\'s going to be a hard thing to do with thie defense we have.

I\'d vote against Tressel, as his teams always seem to escape from their opponents.

But even aside from that why would a guy like Tressel or Bob Stoops be willing to leave a plum job coaching for a major college making tons of money to come to a franchise that has a nasty history of chewing up and spitting out head coaches.

I figure that we need someone who needs us just as badly. Marvin Lewis would have been an ideal choice for us. So I\'d probably stay in that same vein and find a black candidate who has been passed over for a head coaching job. Somebody like a Ted Cottrell would HAVE to come in and make it work, he wouldn\'t have any choice.

Denny Green would be a great coach, but i dont know if he would come here since he wants to be a GM also.

Tom Coughlin is another proven coach, but i personally dont want him.

I agree about Coughlin, he seems to coach by beating up on people. I don\'t think abuse builds a winner.

Parcells is a harsh taskmaster, but he wants to win.
I think Coughlin just likes cussing people.
