what is our biggest need?

for the upcoming draft i've heard several different ideas for what we should go after in the draft

mostly ive heard LB and DE......also a lot of DT and sprinkled throughout are talk of safeties, WRs, TEs and OL

im not asking whether we'll go BPA(which is a myth anyway) or need

im asking, what is our biggest need that we have to address in this draft?

DT.

Lost Grant. Depth was shallow last year to begin with. Not that impressed with Pressley to this point. Still a lot of unknown on our line heading into FA.

It has to be DT.

Team Statistics ______New Orleans_____Opponents
TOTAL RUSHING YARDS __2,106__________1,955

Whatever it takes to get that second number lower.
We need someone who can tackle at the line.

Re: what is our biggest need?

im surprised so far.....

ive heard a lot about LBs and very little about DTs

i was thinking it would be a blow out with LBs and DEs taking the cake

Re: what is our biggest need?

We need a good dt to help keep our linebackers clean and to stop the run ..period. but i dont know if Cody is the answer CL...we shall see

Re: what is our biggest need?

Canton,

Without the benefit of knowing where our RFA's will be in 2010, and not knowing what Arnoux can do...I find it difficult to vote. It is certain Vilma, Shanle will be the Mike and Will LB'ers. Casillas? Waters? Arnoux? Jo-Lonn Dunbar? There is some good young talent in that group...IMHO.

Move Hargrove back to DE? Clancy and Ayodele at NT? DE appears to be the "biggest need".

I know everyone is wanting defense, defense, defense, however, I believe a young tight end and center are needs (especially in the middle rounds). Enough of the WR facination!!!!!

If the past is indicitive of the future, then the Saints will seek a RB in UDFA.

Anywhere along the defensive line... whether it's DT or DE, we could use help at either position.

neugey 03-29-2010 04:52 PM

Re: what is our biggest need?

DE, it'd be great to have a good fast young one in the rotation.

Re: what is our biggest need?

If we want to stop the run we need a solid run stuffer that can disrupt two gaps at once and push the pocket back on the QB when we are bringing the pressure and we need an aggressive fast smart player with good instincts to play DE. Can our young players step up at LBer? On offense I want a smart nasty center to hang out with Carl Nicks. Also, safety needs an upgrade.....I'm less than impressed with Young.

Re: what is our biggest need?

I'm sticking with DT. In the run happy NFC South, it is absolutely NECESSARY to stuff the run. I reallize we won more games than we lost, but I remember Carolina, Tampa, Miami, and Dallas, having big rushing performances against us. That needs to change.

What he said. I voted DE, but anybody who can improve the D line would be huge. I agree there is probably enough young talent in the LB's to pick a new starter there.

Ok, i'm gonna get slammed, but here I go. Shanle is trash! He can't cover and is too damn slow. How many TE's smoked his ass this year. Dallas Clark for one. It'll be Vilma, Arnoux, and if we draft Weatherspoon as our LB's. Mcray can start at DE and our run defense was pretty good before Clancy got injured. I'd like an upgrade on the line, but we need speed at LB. It'll let Gregg Williams dial up a lot more blitz's. We've got some talent in house, so we might be better off than everyone thinks. Granted, we can upgrade!

alright here it comes.....dallas clark had the most catches of any TE in the league......and was 2nd for any TE in yardage behind only antonio gates.......dallas clark ripped everyone apart

shanle does a great job considering he has one of the toughest jobs in the NFL having to cover not only dallas clark and visanthe shiancoe in the playoffs, but also jason witten, kellen winslow, tony gonzalez, fred davis, and brian celek

sure he isnt jabari greer.....but those TEs are very talented and shanle held them to about 3 catches per game every time they played

mccray cant stop the run at all....you know what happened in our first play of the playoffs? tim hightower to the endzone running right at bobby mccray

also you'll notice near the end of the year, all it took was a max protect for our blitzes to be completely nullified.....we couldnt get pressure if we wanted to and all teams like dallas had to do was keep us on our heels.

we cant blitz successfully if the blockers arent occupied by other players. a big DT or DE solves that problem

JK strato - I know how sensitive Canton is about being recognized. lol

Ookay, so back to the topic at hand...

Yes, the d line was our weakness last season. Through FA (unlikely) or the draft, the team will need to add another starting DT and DE.

I wish we had the multiple draft picks that the Chiefs or Pats have, this draft is sure to be a good crop.
