What if we draft Offense in the first?

Say we sign a few good defensive free agents ..get Sharper back...and one of the backs Fargas or Lewis...would offense be a bad pick?..and who would you want?..I know it the offseason...lol

Our offense seems to be in pretty good shape so no rookie would be projected to start. I don't think we would want to spend first round money on someone who has no chance to be in the starting lineup. We have several holes to fill on defense and a rookie might fill one of those so we would be crazy to use our first pick on offense.

Sam Bradford for when Drew decides to hang them up.

... but a quality back-up who might be able to step in and give us a win if Drew got dinged is about all our offense needs right now. With our receiver corps, I don't think dez bryant would even make the team. Who would he replace? Colston? No. Meachem? No. Henderson? No. Even Lance Moore gave us some tremendous plays last year and Roby is a solid returner. Where would bryant fit in?

You never know until someone starts playing with the big boys.

He played against some really good defenses in the big 12..and so did Bradford...

Re: What if we draft Offense in the first?

if we go O in the first it will be a WR or a center

we need depth inside on the line and we dont have a WR on the team who would start on any other NFL team other than colston

a great WR prospect would be nice. still thinking mardy gilyard in the 3rd

Yeah i like Guilly to...and i agree on our recievers...Brees makes them look better than they are..

Dez Bryant is a beast... unfortunately he'll be long gone by #32.

I really don't care who we pick, as long as we don't waste it on Terrence Cody.

We have a pretty complete team right now, especially on offense, but it's never a bad thing to add depth to a position that looks OK (maybe like right tackle?). I'd prefer a defensive player, especially a OLB, DE, or DT, but I'm personally thinking BPA now.

Yeah ..i know it has to be defense...theres just too much talent on D this draft....

I disagree. They still have to catch the ball and run the routes. Hendersen improved greatly and Colston still makes circus catches making Brees look good for those throws. You don't get first in passing yards by having receivers that are mediocre.

Who has the drops stat?

I agree with this statement. I don't think our wideouts get enough credit.

Im not saying they are not good...I just think Brees make them better

How? By getting the ball to them to catch?

Thanks for answering my question...

Re: What if we draft Offense in the first?

I dunno guys. Ya'll think Tampa wouldn't LOVE to start Henderson? Carolina? Atlanta? Brees would make Jerry Rice look better, so no argument from me on that at all, however I think we have a nice group of WRs.

lynwood 04-03-2010 12:27 PM

Re: What if we draft Offense in the first?

Then by that statement Brees makes the center better by not mishandling the snap. The RB better by handing it off...etc

I just want to give credit where credit is due. Our recievers are a very good set of recievers and could start for other teams in the NFL as long as they have a QB that can deliver the ball to them.

No argument there ...i like our recievers...but that damn Dez Bryant is going to be another Brandon Marshall....

I Agree. We all know Randy Moss is a really good WR. How did he look in Oakland? Good WRs make QBs seem great and vice versa.

Ok thread jackers...lol...so who would you pick if it was offense?...we know our recievers are good..

Re: What if we draft Offense in the first?

If it was offense I'd pick a TE or OL.

saintsfan601 04-03-2010 04:08 PM

Re: What if we draft Offense in the first?

TE why we already have Shocky and Thomas. Where does a te fit? I could see ol so that would be my choice.

Re: What if we draft Offense in the first?

I have to say if the Saints feel they must draft an offensive player in the first round, the only justifiable position would have to be TE. (Not sure of what prospects are available at TE, haven't paid too much attention to it yet). My reasoning is the TE position is big in this offense, and Shockey hasn't been exactly all that healthy the past two seasons with the Saints, and for several seasons with the Giants. Another young TE to help would be a big plus, and he could be developed to eventually be the full time starter in a year or two.

lynwood 04-04-2010 08:53 PM

Re: What if we draft Offense in the first?

what Matt T said. To many TE injuries and we need to groom a young one to eventually take over. Shockey is good but he hasn't played a full healthy season yet.

Re: What if we draft Offense in the first?

We need to go defense first. Our D was great last year but it could be better. Our offense was virtually unstoppable, I don't think you can get much better then that.

oh ok.....im glad you stated players and not just pass defense

our pass defense as a whole was pretty terrible.......as well as our run defense as a whole

Yes I meant individual players. I didn't post it right. I wouldn't consider our D to be terrible. Afterall we did win the superbowl with them.
