Vikings players say they outplayed the Saints and say "Colts" should have won! (they're not seeing us as the real champs)

If the NFL draft is Christmas, then the league’s schedule release date must be Thanksgiving. As in thanks to the NFL for finally cranking this thing out.

Except maybe if you’re the Saints. Congrats on winning the Super Bowl, but the league appeared to make it as demanding on the world champs as it possibly could.

First, there’s the opener against the Vikings and — wait for it — Brett Favre. The Vikings’ players felt they outplayed the Saints and had to be choking hard while watching the Saints go on to beat the Colts. That was their Super Bowl, or it should have been, they felt. The NFC title game was a feisty affair, and I expect nothing less in the Thursday opener.

Although the Saints’ opponents have a winning percentage of only .469, which is the 27th-hardest schedule by that measure, the NFL has stuck them with some tough games in tough times. After the opener, they have to go to San Francisco (on Monday night, 11 days after the opener) against an improved 49ers team. Then it’s back home for a tough game against the Falcons in Week Three. After that, it’s the divisional-rival Panthers in....

ProFootballWeekly.com - 2010 schedule won't thrill Saints

It's all tough. Just some big names we play on Nationall TV which is how the NFL wants it. Any given Sunday the best can be beaten by the worst.

We were the best team, we would have one if:

1. We did not nearly break a record for fumbling;

2. We could manage to get the correct number of men in the huddle;

3. We could protect our QB;

4. Our QB did not throw two interceptions.

See -- we are a championship team.

they may not see us as real champs now, but i bet when we drop the championship banner in front of them on opening night theyll see it. btw, i really dont think anyone on our team is trying to impress the vikings.

Tehy see that if they made no mistakes they would of won. Yes, they would of won but that is football. Fumbles are forced, INTs and taken away not given away.

Pants On The Ground Version 2

Can't wait.

Brett will have to endure an entire season after a pants on the ground session with our Defense?

He isn't looking forward to this game, I assure you.

Let them cry; get it all out, until we strap it up again in September.

And the comma placement here between 'game' and 'I' makes this grammatically incorrect. ;)

The comma placement is fine. It just gives a little pause in the sentence. Anyway, we could have won 65-3 and we would still not be considered worthy winners. Certain teams' fans felt like they were entitled and we showed them they were not

BUZZ

Sorry. No parting gifts for you. The comma placement is not 'just fine' if one is interested in being grammatically correct, and since our friend feels the need to be a smart a$$ and correct others, I'll be more than happy to explain to either of you why his comma placement is not correct.

Actually I am an English Teacher and I can assure you that The comma placement here is fine.

Comma Rules of usage as stated in "Writers Inc. 'A Student Handbook for Writing and Learning'", Houghton Mifflin Company, Wilmington, Massachhusetts, pg. 461

"You may use a comma for clarity or for EMPHASIS. There WILL be times when none of the traditional rules call for a comma, but one will be needed to prevent confusion or to emphasize an important Idea.”

As purposed by the author, for example:

He isn't looking forward to this game, (I assure you.)—emphasized by the comma as the writers declaration.

I give the poster a thumbs up for exceptional use of punctuation to express his point.

We've been "AMERICA'S UNDERDOGS" for four decades and, prior to winning "A" Super Bowl, we learned to deal with it (i.e. "Big Ben", "1-15", "Coulda-Woulda-Shoulda", "The Ricky Trade", "Katrina", etc.) The Vikings (or any team on our 2009 schedule, for that matter) took a beating from us to get to the Super Bowl for four quarters and they can't handle it?!?!?!? We had fans from one team wanting us to lose the NFC Championship to a team that embarrassed them the week before!! Isn't that supposed to be the other way around?? And a league, in which our team has been a part of since 1967, wants to capitalize on a slogan that they never created and a logo that was centuries old!! Now we all know (at least, many of us already know) what kind of fans they really are. I have never heard so much whining from most of these fans that they make... Naw, that would be a blatant disrespect to preschoolers everywhere. Let's keep it moving....

You know what, though, I can't wait for the day when the Who Dat Nation flock "Da DF-Dub" to, first, set up the table on the STAR for Thanksgiving, then come back in February only to leave saying "TWO DAT!!!" Yes, "Lombardi Gras II" for SB X-tra Large 5!!!

Re: Vikings players say they outplayed the Saints and say "Colts" should have won! (they're not seeing us as the real champs)

Our poor misguided youth. Why don't you look up 'comma-splice' in that book?

Now, using a comma between two independent clauses doesn't make the statement any clearer nor does it provide any EMPHASIS as you say. In fact it results in a comma-splice. When a person is a well-known and published writer some grace is given and rules are bent. I assume you know this since you teach English. This is not such a case.
