Cowherd say's Saints in for a big reality check! Brutal Schedule..

Cowherd said the Saints schedule is "brutal" and that the Saints are in for a big reality check.
He also said that all our big games are on the road, and that our "Super Bowl hangover" will hurt us.
He stated that Saints and the Pats are behind the 8 ball this coming season.

What do you think?

I think that the Saints will win every game in which they outscore their opponent.

Of course unless that team is Minniesoooota. They still believe they are the NFC Champs.

Re: Cowherd say's Saints in for a big reality check! Brutal Schedule..

Cowherd is a freaking idiot. They pay him to basically fart out of his face for hours on end into a microphone.

Our toughest games are on the road??? I'm sure Minnesota, Pittsburg, and Atlanta love to hear that.

Our schedule is actually more favorable than last year. Our bye week is right in the middle of the season, we close our season against Tampa at home, and we never play more than two games on the road in a row.

I like our schedule better than last year in fact. Will we go 13-3? Maybe not. Maybe we go 12-4 or 11-5. I could care less. Making the playoffs and securing home field is all I care about.

Re: Cowherd say's Saints in for a big reality check! Brutal Schedule..

I really don't buy too much into the tough schedule thing, all NFL schedules are tough. Every year is different, really cannot base anything on the previous year. Bad teams can all of a sudden get good, and good teams can all of a sudden get bad. Happens all the time. Like I've been saying for several seasons now, if the Saints can manage to avoid the serious injury bug, they will be right in the mix of things in the end.

Re: Cowherd say's Saints in for a big reality check! Brutal Schedule..

It's a tough schedule, but then again we've had home games in New York and London...

Played Back to Back Coast to Coast games...

But the two in December are a little wanting, not to mention that we've earned a Turkey Day game in New Orleans and somehow Dallas is "entitled" to their home game each and every season...

Then again, it's a good thing Detroit gets a Turkey game or we'd forget there's a franchise still there...

i actually like cowherd

and i whole heartedly agree with him

the saints are not the same team they were last year and we wont get by if we play the way we did last year

we need help stopping the run because late in the season teams figured us out

if they keep the ball out of our hands and control the clock we will win

we won early because we score points and make the other teams pass(one dimensional)......we took a step back later in the season with teams like the rams, cowboys, redskins etc that could run the ball

I think we took a step back to address some injuries, the injuries piled on as time went on, we had to compromise to pull off some wins and limit injuries at the sametime..
I think what Sean was doing was trying to get as much work with less damage to his starters as possible, it's an opinion of course but i believe if we had continued on like we did the latter part of the season we would have gone into the Post season with not enough weapons.

Alot of people are still feeling resentful about that loss to Dallas but Dallas was not only desperate but "NEEDED" That win to remain alive for the post season, Sean knew what was about to happen, it was either score early and sustain a lead while at the sametime backing down a bit or lose starters in a blood bath that Dallas was all but willing to dish out to the Saints, we laid down on some games because we had already been blessed into the Post season even when we didn't know if Vikings would hand us the Homefield there was nothing left to fight for really unless we wanted to risk further damaging our chances at being successful.

I think Sean and the team did the right thing, it would have just been stupid to go into some games that were basically worthless losing valuable starters by playing right into Dallas plans to ruin our chances at all just so Dallas wouldn't have bragging rights, let them have their bragging rights but guess who's dropping that banner on Sept 9th?

i disagree and heres why

before the dallas game people started talking......talking about our undefeated season

sean payton said he was going to go after the undefeated season....after the colts announced they were more concerned with the post season, payton admitted that he would play to win with our starters

injuries killed us of course......but the games throughout the season you can tell....games where teams could run, we struggled......the miami game, the washington game, even the rams that were pretty terrible as evidenced by their first pick in the draft

any team that could run the ball could've beaten us and should've beaten us except for flukes like a missed field goal in the redskins game etc

we cannot win like that because teams know how to attack us now from the kickoff til the end of the game.....we will not win if we do not stop the run

I agree its a tough schedule and if you dont think so,,, then your blind...but if we can sure up the run D as Canton and so many have stated we will be a better team ..and you know Drew will have us in a position to win every game..Its gonna be on the D to step up to the challenge...

Don't forget the Brees INT that Meachum returned for a TD.

That was the NFL Play of the Year. :bng:

I agree (all teams) not just the saints need to stop the run to win, if they don't stop our run, we'll win.. but i stand by what i said earlier, i believe Sean Payton went back on his word and backed out of that "we''re gearing for a perfect season, talk..
His main concern came when we lost 8 + starters and it got worse as we continued, somehow squeaking wins with our backups..
I think we'll win if we remain Healthy, our "Healthy" starters will take care of the run if they are indeed healthy enough to do so..

Re: Cowherd say's Saints in for a big reality check! Brutal Schedule..

No reason why Saints won't be even better than last year. Does anybody really think the D won't be better? And the O will still be pretty dang good. The bullseye on their backs is a little bigger now, and the schedule might be a little less favorable.

But to me that means there's still something to prove every week. What I like about this schedule is it will really help SP keep the players up for each game because it's almost like a different challenge every week - short week, outdoor road game in December, playoff opponent, etc. Not to mention all the prime time games, which are great if you don't live in the NOLA area.

I completely agree!

After the Miami game teams figured us out. We stuggle against the run. After the Miami game we struggle for wins against teams with a decent running game. Injuries had alot to do with this also

In the offseason I become extra critical of the team. We need some run stoppers. Plain and simple. The schedule is tougher than last years but I do believe we will be fine

Re: Cowherd say's Saints in for a big reality check! Brutal Schedule..

yeah, look how the "tough teams" made out against the Saints '09. Tougher the team, higher level of play opponents will see from Saints. I actually think this was a part of the formula to last years run.... the constant threat of tough opponents elevated the teams sense of drive and urgency.... and when they overcame each tough opponent, it just snowballed confidence.... all up until the last 3 when they had the division on lock and slacked. But then it was too late, they confidence was running through the veins, ready to unload come playoffs.

Re: Cowherd say's Saints in for a big reality check! Brutal Schedule..

The strength of a schedule can change so quick I don't care for those rankings. A team that had a lousy season last year might catch lightning in a bottle and be great this year while a good team mig fall apart due to injuries or other turmoil.

Cowherd lost all credibility with me when he went on a rant about how he doesn't really like talking sports. That pretty much said it all about his infatuation with only west and east coast teams.

Plus, he put Ben Rothlisgirlhandler ahead of Brees because.. and I quote.. "Brees hasn't done it consistently". What??!!!

As for the schedule, just playing in the NFC South makes it tough.

stockman311 04-22-2010 09:55 AM

Re: Cowherd say's Saints in for a big reality check! Brutal Schedule..

I'd rather play in the NFC South than the NFC East this year. Carolina is an 6-10 team this year at best and Tampa is a 5-11 team at best.

Last years strength of schedule was supposed to be tough as well. We went from an 8-8 team to 13-3 while winning the Superbowl. You just never know how one or two pieces can change a team for the better or worse.

Cowherd can eat a D*** The *'s should keep me safe, however i do apologize if i am out of line in such matter, Our Saints had a very tough schelldule last season and we see how bad that went and i'm still not thru this hangover yet,you play to win the gamne and u play to bve the best so who cares what implied team are supposed to do we dominated the "best" teams in the league i'll see the jets in dallas, quote me!

Tampa will stink. Carolina will stink. The Vikings will super stink if Favre isn't back, and their 2 DT's may not even be in the game. The Cowboys are under immense pressure. The Falcons will match up against us, but they are not "brutal" in any sense. The Steelers have no QB (Leftwich? LOL). The 49ers? No QB.

We play like we are capable and stay healthy and we will crush these teams. 40 burger anyone?
