NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will get final say in New Orleans Saints, Geoff Santini arbitration case

The first note we should make about Geoff Santini withdrawing his lawsuit against the New Orleans Saints, and the matter going to an arbitration judge, is that the result is about as likely to remain private as a Tiger Woods mistress.

The sides no longer publicly can talk about the issue -- though neither was doing much more than sticking to its initial statements anyway -- but all the pertinent details of a settlement, if there's a settlement, will be leaked by the side that declares itself as the winner.

Second is that regardless of how much or little information to which we're given access, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will be privy to it all, and if a shred of what the former security director alleges against the franchise is true, someone is going to answer for it. Goodell's punishment is going to be a lot less comfortable than knuckle raps.

Unpaid suspensions are what Goodell drops when an NFL family member steps out of line and acts unseemly. And .......(Read the rest here)

The guy who wrote this is a moron and a sleaze. In my opinion, of course.

He can't even get past writing the title without screwing up the article. Goodell has no say in the arbitration case whatsoever.

so what even if payton can't coach for four games or so. its not going to change the mindset of the teams output. if G.W. is the headsman its going to be awesome still with paytons playbook anyway. plus a team that will carry a chip on there shoulder for screwing with our coachs.

He didn't say he had final say in the arbitration, just that he will have the final say when everything has panned out. Very few people think that there is anything of substance behind this and whatever punishment he dishes out will be relevant to what he thinks occurred.
Personally, I was thinking he was a little power mad when he first took over. But in retrospect he was following a well thought out plan to keep the NFL image clean in America's eyes. Everyone else wants us to fail so they try to validate anything to take credibility away from us.......Not Gonna' Happen!
This team was built on a solid foundation of character and athletics as well. Payton is smart and wouldn't want any part of it. Not to say that he wouldn't take a Vicodin after a hard practice with the boys.;)

In my opinion.(i know im new here.) is that this case will basically come down to neither party winning,,,BOTH WILL STAND BY THEIR STATEMENts regardless ,,the NFL will make a settlement out of court but the plaintiff will not get but pennies if that much.the Saints management in particular the GM...(Loomis) will be placed on probation,,the Head coach ( Payton) wont even have to be there at the final hearing much less be affected..this will all be over an done with before the season start and everyone will basically forget about this and concentrate on a repeat to the big game. And thank God...this crap is just about enough.

Hah, in fairness he didn't say it in the article and an editor probably wote the title. In any case, the guy is an ass for taking that, zomg, the sky is gonna fall attitude.

I hope Santini gets his ass handed to him in the arbitration.

What an idiot. If no one can release information about the case then how will the NFL be able to punish anyone without being able to release the details of what they're being punished for? I know we have some attorney's around here? Get on this one!

The only precedent I remember for FO discretions is New England- and I would say that they got off pretty easy- was it a 2nd or third and $200,000 fine?
