"Jimmy Graham caught everything!"

"Jimmy Graham caught everything! Enough said."

Some other notes:
--Walking wounded report. Devery Henderson was supposed to be out until training camp while he recovers from sports hernia surgery. But, I saw run with the first team offense in a few 11 on 11 situations. Heath Evans didn’t run any plays, but he did run on the sidelines plenty and looked spry doing it. His recovery from knee surgery looks right on schedule. And, while Darren Sharper didn’t run at all, he was walking without a limp. That’s an improvement over the last few times I’ve seen him this year.

--Harry Coleman is trying out at…linebacker!? I was very surprised to see the 212 pounder wearing a number in the 90’s and trying out a linebacker. I thought for sure he’d go back to his natural safety position. Perhaps this is more a commentary of the depth they have at safety than Coleman’s viability as an NFL linebacker.

Re: "Jimmy Graham caught everything!"

-A rookie cornerback looked good..and it wasn’t Patrick Robinson. I watched a drill the Saints do in the red zone where the corner back lines up 5 yards off the receiver and covers a receiver running various routes into the end zone. While Robinson was consistently beaten in this drill, rookie free agent Marcell Young out of Jackson State consistently made play after play. I can’t say I remember which receivers each was covering, though. Of course, the level of competition could be a factor here.

Good Question

I'd like to know who he was covering before I get excited.

Oh no I'm with you. Was he running with the 1 or the 2. A good problem to have.

I'm glad that Young looked good.....I'm not glad to hear that Robinson struggled.

--Rookie OT Charles Brown looks relatively small. Yes, I know the roster says he weighs 297 pounds. But, he looked far thinner than his teammates on the offensive line. And, he didn’t participate in a single drill that I saw. He’s probably still nursing that hamstring injury that’s been plaguing him all week.

--Cornerback Jabari Greer has changed his number from 32 to 33. When I asked him why, I mentioned that 32 had brought him good luck (a good season and a super bowl ring). He replied that he thought #32 had brought him bad luck (sports hernia surgery) and that it was time for a change. And, #33 was the last number he wore as a Buffalo Bill.

That’s an improvement over the last few times I’ve seen him this year.

--Fastest guy on the field: Larry Beavers. I had heard the little kick returner from division III Wesleyan was a legit 4.2 forty yard dash guy. It certainly showed at practice. You couldn’t help but notice how much faster #18 looked than every one else. One would think that Courtney Roby would be his chief competition for a roster spot. The problem for Beavers is that, at 167 pounds, he’s probably not going to be the special teams tackling demon that Roby is. Even if Beavers might be a more dynamic returner, Roby’s versatility would be tough to beat out.

--Neither backup QB looked particularly good. In 11 on 11 plays, Sean Canfield and Chase Daniel looked rattled by the rush. The passing game was quite ragged and ineffective when they were quarterbacking. I don’t know if there were any sort of extenuating circumstances.

--I say only 2 bad drops by receivers. One was by rookie free agent Matt Simon. The other was by ex-Colt Roy Hall.

--Harry Coleman is trying out at…linebacker!? I was very surprised to see the 212 pounder wearing a number in the 90’s and trying out a linebacker. i have a feeling jimmy graham is going to be an animal in the passing game, may have to sharpen up on his blocking, but every report from camps i hear about him is that hes turning heads from every direction!!

If he develops as anticipated, he could become a cross between Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten.

I'm probably overly excited about this kids potential, but how could anyone not be?

I am trying to keep my 'Canes bias in check but I really think Graham is going to really have some major upside. Hope this work in progress continues to develop
