Will the Saints have a running back rush for over 1,000 yards this regular season? If so, who will it be?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Pierre Thomas. Bush gets hurt yet again, and PT is given the bulk of the carries and just nudges past 1,000 yards, and makes the pro-bowl. All Pierre needed last season was a measly 12 yards more per game, which ...

Pierre Thomas.

All Pierre needed last season was a measly 12 yards more per game, which is just over 2 more carries per game.

Just 12/game, huh. That equates to...what?...192 yds? That wouldn't be close even if you were playing horseshoes...or even TNW. (well...maybe)
Remember when Danno use to be right about everything? What happened to those days?

I'm still right LB. You aren't paying attention again.

Pierre Thomas 2009 - 793 yards, (or 207 yards short of 1,000 yards)

OK, so its actually 12.9 yard more per game, which like I said is just over 2 more carries per game.

Passing offense. Running game by committee. Backs with durability issues. No 1000 yard rusher.

Who knows, since we already accomplished the greatest goal in football, maybe Sean Payton may change things up a bit and go more toward the ground, especially since Bree's will now be a walking target, Drew has nothing to prove anymore, But Sean Payton can prove to all he's not strictly an air guy and can switch it up and ground play like any other great team, this coach has proven he's not as stupid or predictable as we all might think he is.

id love to see us pound the ball and control the clock a little more and force other teams to play a little defense

but our team just doesnt do that
And I believe with good reason. Today's NFL is built for the passing game. You can see it in the numbers. Let's check out Brees' passing numbers last year (from NFL.com):

Player: Drew Brees

Attemps: 514
Completions: 363
Yards: 4388
Comp %age: 70.6 (NFL Record!)
Yards/Att: 8.5
TDs: 34
TD %age: 6.6
INTs: 11
INT %age: 2.1
QB rating: 109.6

Overall these stats show a ball control offense. The high completion %age and number of TDs, along with the Yards/Att indicate that the Saints offense, get the ball, keep the ball, and put the ball into the endzone. The 11 INTs show that they don't turn the ball over much.

QBs are ultra accurate. Receivers cannot be touched. There are only a few D. Revis type players in the league. You can pick on the rest all day long.

The running game is a complement. Keeps the D-line from just rushing up the field and creates indecision with the linebackers. Also creates play action opportunities. So you need the balance, I agree. But there's no need for 3 yards and a cloud of dust type rushing attack in today's NFL anymore.

8.6 yards per attempt. Over 12 yards per completion.

Passing is the way to move the ball as long as the QB is accurate, protects the ball, and the line can protect him.

And the vast majority of the time, that's exactly what the Saints offense does.

So no 1000 yard back. And no need for one.

SFIAH

Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

Due to the offensive scheme and its complexity----it would be difficult for anyone to gain a thousand yard on the ground individually.....the ball is distributed to too many players...But thats whatt sweet about it...cause it works.

we've seen it with p.t. with bush and m. bell those extra carries cause's more pounding and more fitigue and more fumbles. not saying we lost all of them but i know i've seen bell pounding the rock like crazy so payton keeps calling his no# and then poop theres the ball on the ground. going to the well to often cause's fumbles i know u guy's saw it like i did with all our backs specially bush. will hand it over. they all need breaks and if that keeps them from 2 more carries and there 1000 yards so be it.

thats the fact jack!!!!!
