So who here actually likes the new OT rule?

NFL should get rid of new overtime format in*playoffs - Ross Tucker - SI.com

Evidently, many outside of the BnG also dislike it. I, for one, don't agree with it. But it'll be kinda fun to see it characterized and defended by those in the media. We all know it was enacted due to the Saints' success this post season. I personally think teams will attempt to score TD's now, rather than fieldgoals. This advantages the Saints once again, IMHO. Will they change the rules again at the completion of this upcoming season as a result?

i only dislike it because they made a rule so favre could get another chance

i dont care that they tweaked the OT rules.....i dont care if they have separate ones for the playoffs and the regular season.....but there cant be a rule change everytime a fan favorite gets beat or makes the wrong play

its not protecting the integrity of the game...its protecting the stars and thats not what football is about

special teams is a huge part of every game......garrett hartley wasnt guaranteed to make that kick and neither is any other kicker.....so why take a kicker out of the game almost completely when the game is on the line? are they not part of the team? are they not required to do their part to win a game?

Exactly.

I don't man, and to be honest I love sudden death. Maybe they should eliminate kicks from OT, meaning the kickoff, and if you want the ball you have to start at your 20- this way you actually have to drive 50 yards to have a shot at a long FG, but I don't like that stupid junk.

It's silly and for girlie teams

I don't mind it- in the regular season in the past couple of years it would have been nice to have.

I don't think you'll see a real significant difference in the outcomes. So you kick your field goal, and then you have to play defense, just like a tied game in the last 3-4 minutes. What are the odds the trailing team will drive and score? And if they kick a FG, the team that was leading gets the ball back anyway.

I predict that only ONCE in the next 3 years the rule even comes into play.

It will be Super Bowl 47. Jeff Reed just put Pitt ahead, and is kicking off. Roby, now more popular than the beer man, brings it back 98 yards for the touchdown and 4th consecutive world championship. The rules committee scrambles for another new rule change.

It doesn't really bother me because we can score at will.

I think it is the stupidest/worst/idiotic descisions in the history of (all) sports. It has nothing to do with being a Saints fan or how it impacts us. It's that there is no logic as to the way they've decided to go.

Re: So who here actually likes the new OT rule?

The Hartley Rule? I definitely dont like it, as I dont like rules changes to start with. The rules were fine in 1981, and they didnt need to change anything. I hate change for the sake of change.

Also, I think it needlessly complicates a game already filled with too many rules. One thing baseball has over football, is the timelessness of its rules. Mostly, I think its crybaby crap. I would tell my team, if you dont want to lose in OT from a coin toss, you can either 1. play defense, or 2. win the damn game in regulation.

I could be wrong.

The rule change itself doesn't bother me so much. What bothers me is that the rules are different after the post season starts. Seems silly.
