Jamaal Brown wants to be released...
 

Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole reports that unsigned restricted free agent LT Jammal Brown wants the Saints to release him.
Cole cites a league source for the report. Brown knows the Saints won't commit to him long term, and presumably would prefer to shop his wares on the open market. The injury-prone 29-year-old has yet to show up for OTAs.

Meh...figured this day would come. I wonder if the Saints have anything in the way of options at this point, aside from sweet talking him into signing his tender.

I'd hate to lose him. He's better than Bushrod no matter what people want to believe. Hope we can get something for him if we can't work out a deal.

If doesn't want to be in New Orleans, they may as well trade him. With that attitude, if he stays, he will not give 100%. I would hate to see him go, but we don't need someone on the team with a poor attitude who could drag other players down with him.

I'm disappointed that something couldn't be worked out, but at the end of the day it doesn't break my heart to see him go.. Bushrod may not be great, but clearly he's good enough. Personally, I think we're gonna see a much more confident Bushrod this year than last year.. And most importantly, I'm sure that if Loomis and Payton had any doubts about his ability to protect the best player in the NFL they would have gotten Jamaal locked up long term waaaaaay before any of this drama started. So, hasta la vista, Mr. Brown, and I hope you'll find the taste of dust suitable to your pallet, because you'll be eating the Saints dust for a long time to come.

Saints beat writer Jeff Duncan confirms that unsigned restricted free agent LT Jammal Brown "isn't going anywhere," despite his reported displeasure in New Orleans.
Yahoo! reported Monday that Brown wants to be released, but the Saints aren't going to give up a talented left tackle for nothing. The team holds all the cards, with Jermon Bushrod plenty capable of starting if Brown holds out.

the team isnt willing to pay him what hes worth....the fans arent willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and he isnt happy with not being wanted

I don't think we (us fans AND the team) are guilty of not wanting him around. I think he is guilty of trying to hold us ransom after not playing for a year. What has he been offered, and what has he turned down?

Apparently not much, according to the Saints. The team wants him to sign his tender, and possibly sompete for the starting LT spot this coming season. Or they want him to sign his tender so they can trade him to another team.

Brown wants a long-term deal, which he is not going to get. I think he will have to sign his tender, and report. If he does sign, he could then be traded to another team. That other team might even want him to play RT, in which case his value would decrease significantly anyway. But if he does not sign, and holds out, he would be unable to show any potential employers whether he can still play or not. And, if he does not play again in 2010, that will be two full seasons of being idle, something that will lower his value. He doesn't have much in the way of leverage.

The last time I checked, Carmichael and Kromer were coaches for the Saints. Canton's opinions are just those...his opinions.

Me, I will go with the coaches who see them everyday (past and present)!

Because, like you and me, players become greedy!

However, coaches deal in reality...they want to win and are focused on putting the best player on the field. They, coaches, do the evaluation, their salary and job security is based on it. Yours? I thought not!

U can fool some of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time!

I'm not really happy about JB wanting to get released. I believe hower that the younger Brown would have replaced him a couple of years down the line. I think we should make due with Bushrod for now even thou he requires you to give him more help than you'd like. When stinch is done or due to get a new contract in 2-3 years put Bushrod as RT and then move Brown to LT.

A: The Saints clearly drafted Charles Brown to potentially be the long-term answer at left tackle. That might take some time, but it's clear Jammal Brown's days are numbered in New Orleans. He's on a one-year tender and won't be retained after the season, if he even makes it through this season. The Saints tried to trade him, but they never got offered value. The best chance they had was in the first hour of the draft. Had the Redskins not taken Trent Williams, Brown was the second option in a trade. Williams was available at No. 4, so no trade was needed. If I were the Saints, I'd keep in touch with the Bills. If things don't work out at left tackle for the Bills, Jammal Brown would be a viable option.
