New Orleans Saints tailback Pierre Thomas signs one-year tender; receiver Lance Moore will sign this week
 

New Orleans Saints tailback Pierre Thomas announced via Twitter that he has signed his one-year, $1.684 million tender offer, though he is still hoping to work out a long-term deal before the start of training camp.

"I'm back for another year Saints fans! signed my tender today...hopefully we can get a long term deal done before the season," wrote Thomas, who had been holding out from the Saints' OTAs the last three weeks while hoping to get a long-term deal done.

Thomas was motivated to sign his one-year offer by the end of the day, however, because the Saints had the option to lower their offer to $500,000 after midnight.

It didn't make sense to lose close to $1 million. PT23 only had two options: play with the offered tender (and continue to try to negotiate a long term contract) or sit out.

Clearly he's a bright kid.

Pierre Thomas signs tendered offer with Saints

New Orleans Saints Running Back Pierre Thomas has signed his tendered offer with the team, according to Saints General Manager/Executive Vice President Mickey Loomis.

Thomas' Agent Lamont Smith said that Pierre is still looking for a long-term deal with the team.

Thomas had until midnight tonight to sign his tendered offer at $1.684 million dollars or the Saints offer would have been reduced to 110% less of his 2009 salary under the NFL's current collective bargaining agreement.

Thomas gained 1,389 all purpose yards in the Saints championship season.

"PT Cruiser" became a fan favorite after making the team as a long shot in the summer of 2007. Thomas was an undrafted free agent from Illinois who beat out the Saints fourth round pick in 2007, RB Antonio Pittman.

In his three seasons with the Saints, Thomas has rushed for 1,670-yards with 16 TD�s with 87 receptions for 737-yards and six touchdowns.

Thomas also helped out on special teams returning kickoffs for the Black & Gold.

Thomas has gained 1,677-yards on 68 kickoff returns. Pierre also has recorded nine tackles on special teams play in his first three seasons in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints.
