Chalk up Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers as another person under the spell of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. The two worked out together some in Southern California in the offseason, Rodgers told ESPN's Jason Wilde. Indeed, the only drawback was he didn't get to spend more time with the Super Bowl XLIV MVP.
"Well, he was on the world tour this year; he was throwing out the first pitch at a Yankees game and doing 'Good Morning America,' so he wasn't always there in the morning but he was there a few times when we threw," Rodgers said.
"I was happy for him," he added. "I think the thing it reinforces is that hard work pay off because nobody works harder than that guy. I just try to keep up with him when I'm out there."
That is proving difficult, Rodgers acknowledged. He admired Brees' statistics even before 2009, but even now that Rodgers is coming into his own in Green Bay Brees remains a step ahead.
"I was like, 'All right, I've got to see how he does this,'" Rodgers said about his thoughts when he became a starter. "And now, I'm a Pro Bowler and he's the Super Bowl champion. So it's the same kind of deal - continue to watch the things that he does because I want to get to that level."
