FOXBOROUGH, Mass. ― Randall Gay stared at the side official in disbelief, wondering why no call was made on a pass from Tom Brady to Wes Welker.

Brady had just completed a pass to Welker in coverage in the end zone on the sideline and there was question as to whether the receiver was inbounds or not.

The thousands of fans in attendance cheered. Gay did not.

He just wanted the official to make call. And when the man in the striped shirt did not, Gay did, waving off the completion and touchdown.

“He was just standing there smiling,” Gay said. “You’re not here to smile. You’ve got to make a call. The fans liked it, but then he said it was incomplete. I’m going to make the call. Even though Tom thought it was in. Tom’s going to argue and think it’s in.

“Incomplete pass. Long foul ball. Our ball.”

As soon as Gay began waving off the completion, Brady rushed to Gay, getting in the face of the Saints’ defensive back. He then shoved Gay in the back.

Of course, it was all in jest. The two are friends from when Gay played in New England.

“He has been messing with me all week,” Gay said. “It’s fun. I’m glad to be out here and clown with him a little bit.”
