Turning heads: Devery develops into big-time receiver for Saints

Turning heads: Devery develops into big-time receiver for Saints

Sometimes you wonder what finally inspires certain football players to become better. It may be a matter of being in the right place with the right coach, a change of attitude or discovering a little flaw that needs to be corrected.

Over the past two seasons we have seen the development of Saints wide receiver Devery Henderson. Henderson always possessed tremendous potential, but his inconsistency and dropped passes had him heading towards becoming a bust as a second-round choice.

Over the past two seasons, Henderson has caught 83 passes for 1,597 yards, averaged 19.2 yards per catch and five touchdown passes.

We have also seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of dropped passes by the former LSU speedster.

Wyatt Harris, who has to be considered the most influential workout guru in the area after working with Tracy Porter, Robert Meachem, Marques Colston, Chip Vaughn, Auburn freshman wide receiver Trovon Reed of Thibodaux High, Houston Texans Jacoby Jones and the top prep football prospect in Louisiana in O.P. Walker defensive lineman Anthony Johnson, found a major flaw in Henderson’s game once he started to work out at Sonic Boom.

I have always loved Devery and I am glad he has matured to the WR he is today.

Yer definetly, in 2008 i recognized that devery had done alot with his hands, the number of dropped passes was dramatically reduced. Its a testament to not only himself but to all the team that helped him e.g coach curtis johnson, brees etc
He showed last year that he's not only a deep threat but hes matured into an all rounded receiver who catches the intermediate passes aswell. Just take a look at his performance in the superbowl, made alot of tough catches on intermediate routes. Well done devery, everyones proud of ya!!

His problems with pass catching was the fact that he was a running back his first two years at LSU. He had to learn to be a receiver late in his college career.

Looking forward to watching him this year.

In traffic, he will still revert back to his natural tendency to catch with his arms and not with his hands, as if in protection mode. His play improved tremendously over the past two seasons. We hope he keeps it going in this direction.
