As the rosters must be trimmed down to 75 players today as mandated by the NFL, the Saints have now announced two of their latest cuts.

Rookie quarterback Sean Canfield and wide receiver Andy Tanner were both cut on Tuesday as confirmed by General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Canfield was a seventh round pick out of Oregon State that never could seem to find his groove in the NFL passing game. Then the signing of veteran Patrick Ramsey and the emergence of second-year quarterback Chase Daniel meant that Canfield was the odd man out.

Canfield's only preseason action was taking three kneel downs at the end of the victory over the Houston Texans.

Wide receiver Andy Tanner just fell prey to being one of many in a crowded position. Tanner was signed by the Saints after participating in their offseason activities in May. Tanner participated in two preseason games but did not record any statistics.

Canfield could end up on the practice squad.....but somehow I don't see it. He just didn't cut the mustard.

I agree...we have other needs...and other players who showed more that should go there
