Hung over? Not Brees; he's just getting started
 

Drew Brees does not look like he has ever had a hangover. Well, maybe after Lombardi Gras

No one — with the possible exception of the Lombardi Trophy itself — had a more hectic schedule after Super Bowl XLIV than Brees. He hit Disney World, was the King of Bacchus, nearly got his birthmark wiped off by Oprah, dropped in on Leno and Letterman, played a round with Jack Nicklaus, shined at the ESPYs, flew on the F-16 Thunderbirds and produced a book called "Coming Back Stronger," which has nothing to do with the hair of the dog.

But it's all out of his system, has been for some time and that had nothing to do with detox. Brees, whose New Orleans Saints open the season Thursday at home, is full bore into football mode. He's been running after practice as if he is Forrest Gump. He arrives before everyone and is often running wind sprints or gassers while everyone is leaving. He could be leaving in a limo if he wanted.

He is the antithesis of quarterback Seth Maxwell, played perfectly by Mac Davis in "North Dallas Forty" — perhaps the best NFL movie ever made. You are not going to see Brees sipping a beer while playing with dumbbells in the weight room. He is a workout fanatic.

Brees does do damage to his body, but in a much more healthy way.

"I punish myself from time to time with conditioning or whatever," Brees said after a recent practice. "I might say for every pick I throw, I will run two extra gassers. Or, for every incompletion or bad decision, I am going to do this. If I ran a two-minute drill that I am not happy with, I might go back through it again and visualize the defense I saw and run through the routes that I wish I would have done or the throws I wish I would have made."

After a recent practice, Brees did not go home. He stood at the goal line alone as if in prayer. Then he ran from one end of the field to the other.

"Yeah, I was just visualizing some stuff," he explained. "I will do that from time to time if there is something I want to work on — a situation or a route concept I want to think about."

That is why the man is the best QB in the league.

The dude is a true competitor. When everyone else leaves practice, he's still out there working on his game. He knows what it takes to win.

I love how much Brees cares about the game and is always trying to better himself for the good of the team, he knows he is looked up to all over the who dat nation!!!
