Hawk wants out of Green Bay?

Hawk wants out of Green Bay?
Mike McCarthy reportedly heaped praise on A.J. Hawk in August, saying he was having the best camp of his NFL career. A month later, Hawk didn't play a single snap from scrimmage for the Packers in their season-opening victory at Philadelphia. After starting 62 of 65 games in his Packers' career, the former first-round draft pick appears to have reached the point where his best opportunity to be a key contributor on defense might be with another team. There's still more than a month before the NFL's Oct. 19 trading deadline and although Hawk's agent, Mike McCartney, stressed that Hawk remains committed to the team that drafted him fifth overall in 2006, he indicated that Hawk would be willing to change teams if it meant more playing time.

I know that our LBs looked pretty good thursday but I'd still like to have Hawk. He was a guy I was hoping we would draft and he has been productive.

I like him to..but too expensive and not 3 down LB...but i would like to have him..i can see a trade to Buffalo...who lost Puz..for Marshawn?

D_it_up 09-16-2010 11:00 AM

I'd be down with that. He would definitely add some depth and intensity to the corps of linebackers we have. Send 'em a 4th rounder and get this guy in a Saints uni ASAP

Ashley 09-16-2010 01:09 PM

Yes, Give them a late round pick. Then hell yea. If not no big deal

Vilma and Shanle handle the passing situations at LB. To have a real thumper against the run like Hawk would be a huge upgrade over whomever lines up with Vilma and Shanle in the other situations. Especially against the RB's the Saints face within the division. A guy with his talents would flourish in Williams defense. The last time the Saints got a disgruntled player from the Pack at a need position, it worked out pretty well. Benson has plenty of money. There is no cap this year.

Yeah i agree Hawk is thumper..but if wont open up our pockets for a DT..i dont think Loomis will for Hawk..i hope im wrong..but i think they are content with what we have ..Ingram will be back and Junyah will get some reps ther im hoping..But if we could get him i would be cutting backflips..lol..just being real..

Can he cover a TE? 'Cause if he can we oughta make a serious offer for him.

Rugby Saint II 09-16-2010 03:30 PM

I would like to see Hawk in a Saints uniform. We could use the help at LBer. Ingram could make a huge difference if he were on the field but he isn't. Like Strato said if we aren't going to pay for an elite DT, then it's hard to believe that we will open up the billfold for Hawk.

you may have something there ...

ScottF 09-16-2010 04:42 PM

great thread so far--

a couple of points:
-other than 1st or second and short, we wouldn't need him in coverage, on a TE or anyone, because Vilma and SS will be out there in nickel and dime
- if this guy is going to start, why only give up a late pick? you get a young veteran starter today, 8 months before the next draft

- the salary part is the biggest issue: base of TEN million next year

THE Ohio State University has been pretty good to our D... Hawk'd feel right at home!

There would have to be a renegotiation of that of course. We could't afford him, Brees and Bush.

LBCutta 09-17-2010 04:34 AM

pass

Ahhhhh, but with the brilliance that Mickey Loomis has with numbers, I'm sure there could be arrangements made to restructure that big money he is due next season. I'm not saying this is even going to happen, but theoretically, it could be worked out.

winmill1 09-17-2010 10:34 AM

The rumors of him going to Buffalo have been shot down by Packers and Bills. Packers say Bills want too much for Lynch.

Speedy Ron 09-17-2010 10:46 AM

used to like him but he isnt who i thought he was. i think hes too slow and not athletic enough to play our this d. he basically has been stinking up the field the last year or so

A.H..

His numbers in Green Bay have been sliding since he joined the league, not sure if the reason is decline in play or that the Green Bay defense has been improving overall. Not really sure what happened with him and the coaching staff, but he always seemed to be a decent player.
