Are the Saints walking right into a Golden Gate-sized trap?

The trap game. It's a common thing in the world of football and every single year, multiple teams fall victim to it. If they're lucky, they can chalk it up sometimes as a meaningless loss. Other times though, it can ruin an entire season.

Some of you may not fully understand what a "trap game" so please let me explain. Take a team (we'll call them Team A) and have them go into a three game stretch at some point during their season. The first game they play is against a very good and hard to beat team, but they win. The third game in the series is also against a very difficult team and could mean Team A is looking forward to it in order to make sure they are prepared. Then there is that middle game which would end up being against a mediocre or poor team. Game number two would be considered the "trap game."

Team A would maybe take the poor team for granted or just keep their focus on that third, more difficult game all the while not really worrying about the second. In turn, Team A goes out and performs in a lazy fashion or not one up to their abilities and end up losing to the poor team. Team A fell right into a trap.

It definitely is 100% a trap game.

1. We're on the road.
2. Playing after a big win.
3. We play our most bitter rival next week.
4. The 49ers are a good team that was humiliated last week.
5. Everyone is calling us the best team on the planet.

Yes, this absolutely has all the makings of a trap game, but I also think we're now good enough on both sides of the ball to squeak out a win anyway.

Its a trap game, but we manage to dodge that bullet.

It's only a trap game when it isn't recognized as a trap game. That's what makes it a trap game. I am sure the organization is well aware of the situation and have stressed the importance of this Monday's game with all and with 10 days of preparation they should be ready to take on the challenge.

That's a buncha bull-trap

Yep, ten days for the mad genius to plan. Look for a fake kick and a few reverses, or Reggie in the wildcat.

our only concern Monday is Gore

It's a trap game, but we already know the trap. We're ready for any traps they got to throw at us. Bring it on!

SmashMouth 09-16-2010 06:34 PM

I know one thing ... the media still posts the least favorable pics they can find, despite our stranglehold on Tiffany!

It has the CHANCE to be a trap game. SP Needs to have the team ready & I think he will.

I really do not want to lose to the Whiners - ever. But especially on MNF

neugey 09-16-2010 07:59 PM

One thing can keep it from being a trap game - they're old bitter division rivals. 49ers still make my blood boil, Debartolo the cheating ***** and those elitist bastards of the west coast offense.

lynwood 09-16-2010 08:11 PM

I'm not concerned about "trap games". Seems that an angle has to be worked up everygame to make it more interesting. If it isn't a trap game, it a game of the unbeatens, or a division rivalry, or a coach rivalry, or we beat them 10 years ago on the last play and they want revenge. I don't think there is any such thing as a trap game. If we lose it's because we didn't execute or we got outcoached or just outplayed.

Anything can happen.......except getting out coached.:p

This could be a trap game, but I'm not so sure that the Saints will be looking past the 49ers to the Falcons. Few present Saints players have had enough of negative encounters with the Falcons to truly despise them like most Saints fans. The team has not lived the history that has made this such a bitter rivalry. I'm thinking the Saints will take both teams seriously, and will beat the Falcons by a wider margin than they beat the 49ers.

QBREES9 09-16-2010 11:08 PM

Trap ??? I got a mouse trap.

Saintswrath 09-17-2010 12:52 PM

I hate to be like this but i really think San Fransisco better be afraid and have their ish in gear, Saints are very dangerous as the season gets grinding on.
