I think it’s a combination of factors, the first and foremost being “Super Bowl Hangover” . We’re all waking up on a morning after a huge party, one we planned for 42 years, and having to face a new day. It’s just hard to get going. Then, there’s the high expectations that are actually realistic this year. Sure, we always started each year thinking we were going to the Super Bowl but nobody realistically believed it. Something I’ve heard too many times this year is “winning isn’t as much fun when you expect it.” Now, winning isn’t enough. Everyone wants us to go out and totally dominate and that’s not going to happen because of my next point. Every team we play this year circled our game as soon as the schedule came out as a team they have to beat to prove they belong. We are going to get everyone’s A-game, no matter the circumstances. Another factor still, is that we DID play in the Super Bowl last year and for two weeks, night and day, had our offense and defense put under a microscope, analyzed, studied, dissected, every tendency, every nuance discussed, and you have to know that every coach in the league was taking notes. You can add to it all by looking at our schedule this year. Unlike last year when we had some exciting games to look forward to, Eli and the Giants, Brady and the Patriots on a Monday night, Cowboys on a Saturday night, Falcons on a Monday night, even the Lions season opener was well anticipated. This year the home schedule is blah. Sure, the Vikings hate-fest game was fun to look forward to but the rest of the schedule is downright dull. The Steelers on Sunday night will be fun but who wants to see the Saints play Cleveland, St Louis or Seattle? Add to that, no home Monday night games and you have a fan-base that’s bored. We’ll be ok and I think we make the playoffs but it just won’t be as fun. We just need to try to stay focused and ride out the season and then we can look forward to next year when we have the Colts (which you KNOW will be a Monday night game) and Texans and Bears at home and get all excited again.

OK, I'm POSITIVE that if we clean up our sloppy play on both sides of the ball we'll crush Atlanta.

I definitely feel called out. But, after 7 years of chatting during the games with you fellas, there shouldn't be anything to prove. However, Drama Queen may be a bit harsh, I'll have to appeal to the Commish to see if it's a flagrant foul.
