Falcons fan here

Thought I would say "Hi" and give some perspective from Falcon fans here.
We are very happy to get the win. It is such a big deal for us because beating the World Champion Saints legitimizes the team for the FANS here as being a "good" team. Most of us did not expect to win but did expect to play the Saints close after seeing the 49ers run on the Saints. A few of you have remained very classy with the loss and addressed the issues that the Saints need to work on...props for that. Hopefully it will be another good game when they meet again in the Ga Dome. The Niners nearly beat the Saints so I hope the Falcons dont try to coast thru this weekends game...I doubt they will. The Saints will face a lot of running this weekend but nothing Brees and company cant easily overcome.
The Saints have a pretty easy stretch coming up even without Bush in the mix. With him coming back later, I think it may be a good thing for the Saints to not have him now. He will be on fresh legs for the harder opponents and be just the thing to energize the team in the stretch.

Wow, a classy Falcons fan.. That's nice to see. Welcome aboard, cablebandit.

Hmm, do you watch the Falcons games on your stolen cable?

cablebandit 09-28-2010 12:22 PM

lol...no....I get robbed by Comcast like everyone else :)

I did live in E. Baton Rouge Parish for a bit in the "lean" years so it's nice to see people pissed about losing instead of accepting it as "the usual".

Halo 09-28-2010 12:27 PM

Classy post, welcome aboard.

I go back a long way with the Saints, even before the Dome Patrol years in the 90's. (no I'm not 100 yrs old, just been a fan since I can remember)

Falcon's / Saints has ALWAYS been a great rivalry game that is hard fought. The Falcons came to the Dome last year and it was a huge fight. Lots of people don't remember the Falcons beating the Saints with "Big Ben", nor do they remember the long stretch where the Falcons didn't beat the Saints for year during the Dome Patrol years.

Sunday the Saints faltered some with some stupid mistakes, came back strong and handed the game off with a "free kick" - but that's how the ball bounces, the Saints didn't execute when needed, the Falcons did. The Falcons won fair and square and honestly it was a great NFL game to watch.

As for a rivalry, I honestly like the visiting Falcon fans who jive a whole lot but seem to high five and josh around with us to have fun. I remember busses of Falcon fans coming to the Dome to see the game.

You guys played a great game and won, congrats - but watch out, the second Saints/Atl meeting in the Georgia Dome will (hopefully) be revenge for the Saints. Let's hope both teams do well this season so it's a fight for NFC supremacy.

I remember long ago (Fulton County Stadium long ago...) when either one or both teams stunk bad, even then it was always a barn burner.

Just glad the Saints are considered "good" because, like Falcon fans can of their old teams, I remember a time when we weren't considered serious contenders.

LBCutta 09-28-2010 12:27 PM

Wow...that' a pleasant surprise. Pretty much 100% of my friends are Falcons fans (born in NO, raised in ATL) and I can't tell you how many ignorant messages about the SAints I got this weekend. Anyway, congrats on the win......and thank Garrett Hartley..lol

QBREES9 09-28-2010 12:35 PM

Cablebandit your welcome here anytime.

oh LAWD you do go way back!!! Back then the Falcons/Saints would fight for who got the #1 draft pick ;)
Saints/Falcons has always been a great rivalry if only to their fans. Lately we have been on the wrong end of the beating stick so its nice to get to crow a little.....as you guys know.

We dont thank Hartley. The game wasnt over after he missed was it just like it wasnt over after DeCouds punt return blunder. Was it automatic that the Falcons would go down the field and get a FG themselves? Nope there was football still to be played. Bryant made a clutch kick...especially after that penalty.
Rematch should be another good game. Hopefully neither team will be hampered by injuries. it would suck if we basically took each other out with injuries.

Rugby Saint II 09-28-2010 12:56 PM

Welcome to the B&G cablebandit. You seem to be a decent falcons fan that doesn't gloat. You certainly hit the nail on the head when you said that Hartley missing his kick didn't lose the game. Ya'll did have to drive down the field and make your kick.

cablebandit 09-28-2010 01:06 PM

Oh I DID gloat..to my sis who lives in Denham Springs....of course she's let me have it all week prior but we both knew it would be a good game.

I havent seen much trash talking here in Atlanta. Most people are just happy to have the Falcons legitimized by the win. Of course you have idiot fans rooting for every team.
Hopefully the fans arent too rough on Hartley.....you win AND lose as a team.

cablebandit 09-28-2010 01:08 PM

[QUOTE=strato;250411]But on the other hand our flakey kicker makes the kick.. Cablebandit never comes here...[/QUOTE

who said I was not here before.....I just registered to post to give you guys a fans perspective from the other side

SapperSaint 09-28-2010 01:13 PM

Thanks for the kind words Bandit. Class act on your part and I know it is welcomed here. Good luck to you guys the rest of the way and feel free to stop by anytime and chat.

On a game note, y'alls Defensive line is a beast. Really, the whole defense is awesome.

cablebandit 09-28-2010 01:16 PM

uh tell me which Falcons forum cause Im not on ANY and dont read any. I only read here because the Saints are the defending champs and you guys give out way more info on the Saints than I could ever find on sites like Espn. You always study the "enemy".

Somebody send me some GOOD seafood Gumbo and a Saints shirt and ill wear it around for a day here locally :) My neighbor who is from Nawlins would die if he saw me in a Saints shirt

Thanks! Our secondary though.....they could make Jamarcus russell look like Drew Brees. Matt Ryan....even though he played well.....I dunno.....Im not sold on his arm yet. When he throws I get the same feeling you guys get when Hartley lines up for a kick.

CheramieIII 09-28-2010 05:54 PM

Welcome and if I get tickets to the Atlanta game again this year I'll give ya a shout out

Saint Talon 09-28-2010 06:23 PM

I`m also a fellow Talon supporter........Welcome.

Welcome cablebandit. Our board is pretty much people who have lives, so you wont get much drama.

I remember all this stuff too, Halo, back in the days when we BOTH sucked. Yet beating the Falcons would make you smile, and I'm sure ATL enjoyed beating us too. I remember William Andrews and Bartkowski, and that kicker who was really a bartender, who just tried out one day, and became a sensation. I want to kick the Falcons butts, but you know, I rooted for you against Dallas (and I live in Texas), and those damn 49ers. Im old enough to still dislike the 49ers. (before the re-alignment)

I too enjoy your fans coming to town and partying, and talking junk, but boy, there was this one lady Sunday walking out of the Dome who 90% of her butt was showing, and it was not pretty. I always tell them, "see you in a few weeks....."

DblBogey 09-29-2010 07:45 AM

Welcome!!!!!

Talk about old timers . . . I remember the days of Tom Fears, Billy Kilmer and Dan Abramowicz. I was jumping up and down when we drafted Archie in '78! Now that is an old timer for you!

B_Dub_Saint 09-29-2010 10:09 AM

Nice post Cable but we should have won the damn game. Im still pissed.

Idiot... we drafted Archie with the 2nd pick in round 1 in 71.

After his college career at U of M, Manning was drafted in the 1971 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints with the second overall selection.

Saintswrath 09-29-2010 08:31 PM

Welcome aboard cablebandit, nice starting post to get you acquainted here, feel free to make yourself comfortable, but remember your in Saints domain so don't expect not to see i'll rival teams catching some flack from our more "vocal" fans here, but we have a place for that here..

na, you came to gloat cablebandit . Problem is you cant . You beat a kicker but lost against the team. No way we dont score on the 11th with a 1st. We'll be sure to make that clear next time:)

tho the legitimized part is funny.

skymike 09-30-2010 08:46 AM

naa. they won fair and square. those are the rules.

they won on the scoreboard.

cant wait till the rematch.

I didnt beat anybody...Im just a fan, not a player on the Falcons roster.

If there was a 100% chance that the Saints would have scored a TD....SP would not have chosen the 96% FG chance. You fail at math....

skymike 10-01-2010 06:00 PM

aaa! we dont say "fail" here.

thats SR. crap.
