Saints Coaching

Countless different coaching styles exist. A coach may be primarily task-oriented or people-oriented. He may be diplomatic, democratic, intuitive, by-the-book, or off-the-cuff. Permissive or strict. Whatever the style, a coach must possess the ability to make his players believe in his way of doing things. If players do not firmly believe they are being put in the best position to win, they will not usually achieve the desired results.

Another important area for a coach is competence. To keep the trust and allegiance of players, a coach must be self-assured and competent. Technical knowledge does not automatically translate into competence. Competence also includes factors such as dealing with players, in both victory and defeat. A deficiency in some technical understanding can usually be overcome by surrounding yourself with highly competent assistant coaches.

To me, Haslett's coaching style doest't seem to instill confidence in his players. They don't seem to rally around Haslett. It just looks like when a mistake is made that Haslett has that look on his face of - "What's going to go wrong next" and that seems to carry over to the players. Some coaches have a calming influence on their players and I just don't see that with Haslett.

I believe Haslett is a competent coach, but only in certain areas. I think there are a lot of coaches like that in the NFL, but I believe the successful one's have talented assistant coaches to rely on for some weaknesses that they might have. I don't think Haslett has the kind of assistant coaches he needs to get this Saints team to the next level.

Haslet made the decision to hire Mike McCarthy and to make Rick Ventui the defensive coach. He seems to believe in both or them, but it could ultimately be his undoing. With the talent McCarthy has on offense, there is really no excuse for the inconsistent play of the offense. There have been very few games that I can say the game plan was the key to winning. More times than not, the pure talent on offense is what won games. I believe Rick Venturi has the technical knowhow, but I do not believe he has the ability to get that over to the playing field. It might be time for Haslett to get more involved on both offense and defense if he want's to continue coaching for the New Orleans Saints.

I saw that on Saints report .com to Billy .

You think that poster wrote that or pasted it ???

It has some good points on Haslett becoming more involved .

I\'ll admit that the following is a stretch, but the keyword in the above quote is \"if he want\'s to...\" Does anyone here think that he would rather be the head coach in Buffalo? The Bills are the most underachieving team in the NFL right now. Like I said, a stretch, very unlikely, but something to think about.

Billy, my hat is off to you. This is one of the more logical posts that I have seen come from your pen. The old saying in the business world is \"that a manager is only as good as the people he surrounds his self with.\" I think that maybe HazHadit is at the end of his \"head coach\" rope, unless Benson can figure out how to bleed more money out of HazHadit\'s tenure.

I hear you BnB. At least he has stopped the \"I don\'t know what went wrong today\" talk, but at the time he seemed like someone who had given this team all he had to offer and realized it wasn\'t enough. In my opinion he just wants out of N.O.
Benson won\'t like to pay him some big bucks when he fires him, so maybe they\'ll come to an agreement and Haslett will resign at the end of the season. For all the conspiracy theorists out there: He isn\'t on a sabotage mission, but - in my opinion (I read that thread too, WhoDat) - he feels like he has done everything he can to make them winners. If the rest of the organization can\'t pull it off he won\'t interfere - like in the second half on Sunday when he should have had a word with McCarthy about the offensive strategy.
