Kicking Situation...

whats going to happen?

exile 10-18-2010 08:02 AM

Wait... we have a kicking game?

Seer1 10-18-2010 08:06 AM

We're going to just go for it on fourth and whatever...

dizzle88 10-18-2010 08:15 AM

If we have 4th and 4 or under, i would not at all be suprised to see payton call a - Fake Field Goal QB bootleg, with chase daniel - We know daniel has got some mobility!

Which is what I would have done yesterday with the large lead.. Test it out!

poydras 10-18-2010 08:31 AM

I was on the way back from New Orleans yesterday and missed the game. Did we miss some more field goals?

Hartley missed a 33 yarder. Not sure about his golf game but his kicking game has a wicked hook.

%$#@!

DblBogey 10-18-2010 08:39 AM

Hey Hartley did better than TBs kicker . . . They are not going to make 'em all but if we continue being successful in the red zone we shouldn't worry about field goals.

lynwood 10-18-2010 08:43 AM

The kick he missed looked like a low snap and a off placement by the holder. Just something that I noticed. When I was walking off the field it looked like Hartley and Chase were having words. Brunell was holder last year so I don't know if that ha anything to do with it.

LBCutta 10-18-2010 08:47 AM

Hartley is 56% this year. So pretty much he misses 1 of every 2 kicks...LOL! Sure he kicked us into a Super Bowl but what have you done for me lately?

If you scored points for hitting the uprights, Connor Barth would have been All-World yesterday. He did it to perfection.

With all due respect. We are the Super Bowl Champions. We will not remain that way if we set our "bar" at the level of Tampa's.

Also:

Beat Vikings by 5
Beat SF by 3
Lost to Atlanta by 3
Beat Carolina by 2
We have only had two games with larger than a 6 point gap. If 2 of those games went 3 points the other way we are 2-4. Or Make the Atlanta field goals and we are 5-1.

Our Kicking is EVERYTHING to focus on at the moment! We should worry ALOT about field goals.

Make those Atlants field goals and we are 5-1 tied with the Jets for the NFL lead! Also we are starting the division sweep!

dizzle88 10-18-2010 08:55 AM

Everytime we miss a field goal (man that sounds horrible) it seems as though hartley is constantly looking at where the holder has spotted it, i don't know if its a problem with the holder, but to me he looks like hes always trying to blame someone else. If he preferred brunells holding so much, bring brunell back as a holder for like $1000 a snap lol

I agree! The snap and hold always seem fine. Hartley just hooks it. And then tries to blame Daniel. Cut him! Sign Graham or Brown

Turbo Saint 10-18-2010 09:22 AM

i'd like to she s.graham on the saints...that'd be sick.

To hit two crossbars in one game takes a large amount of skill. They should put him on sports science like Drew.

Nope. In order for a fake to work, you need an effective play to fake out of. For example, in order for a play action pass to work you need a good running game. To see a good running game, check out the Saints- Bucs game yesterday. For a fake field goal to work, you need a decent kicking game.
For a poor example of a good kicking game, watch the Saints - Bucs game yesterday. We're gonna drop Hartley to make room for another of these good looking running backs we keep coming across. Maybe we could teach Jones or Betts to kick field goals....

Saint_LB 10-18-2010 01:51 PM

...but Danno would never, ever waste a draft pick on a kicker. j/k, Danno.

Anyway...I'm not a Hartley fan, either, and I will go on to say that I hope that we eventually can find someone consitent. However, whoever they may find and as good as his credentials may be...I guarantee you that he will eventually miss...and if he is around long enough, he will miss an important one. JMO

That comes with the Job, every kicker no matter how consistent will miss an important kick in their career. Its a given, every QB will make a dumb throw, Every WR will drop an easy pass etc
The thing that frustrates me is that hartley has said all this stuff about he will make sure he's on top of his game from now on, then has the nerve to blame chase daniel on the miss cuz of the hold.

LBCutta 10-18-2010 02:13 PM

I used to live in Houston and was stuck watching the Texans on Sundays. And Kris Brown was pretty automatic inside of 45 yards.....he is 77% for his career which is pretty good. So why are we wasting our time with Hartley? Its about 5-10 kickers sitting at home that are clearly better than Hartley right now.

Cruize 10-18-2010 02:45 PM

I think Hartley will be fine. He needs to kick field goals like he kicked extra points yesterday. Right down the middle. The best thing Payton and Brees can do now and always is make sure the game doesn't come down to the kicker. Any kicker. At any time. LOL.

73Saint 10-18-2010 03:37 PM

Hey, not to hi-jack this thread, but WTH was Hartley doing kicking off instead of Morestead? I mean, Morestead punted (once), so I know he's not injured, or is he? Isn't kickoff usually Morestead's responsibility?

Yeah I found that odd as well. Maybe Morestead still has a bit of that original injury. Hartley did good on the kickoffs though.

Beastmode 10-18-2010 04:31 PM

Hartley is young. Maybe he could have been more diplomatic with Chase but that comes with experience. I firmly believe it has more to do with an inexperienced holder than Hartley at this point.

Yer exactly, the hold has looked fine everytime, chase Daniel is fine. Hartley needs to get his act together rather than looking for someone to blame when he misses, which is pretty much all the time now.

That's part of the problem ... for extra-point attempts he has the ball dead center and he makes it.

We need to coach better, call a run play up the middle of the field on the 3rd down if we might have to kick on 4th. Hartley clearly has a problem with the left and right hashes.

That makes us way too predictable on O. I understand what ya mean, however for the money he's on, just at basic salary, he's gotta be money on everything 35 yards in atleast.
