QB Colt McCoy could start Sunday v. New Orleans Saints

Although he tried to remain noncommital, Cleveland Browns Coach Eric Mangini conceded the obvious Wednesday in a conference call with reporters, namely that rookie quarterback Colt McCoy could start Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

The top two quarterbacks on Cleveland's depth chart, Louisiana native Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace, have both been sidelined with severe ankle sprains, and the players are not expected to practice Wednesday, according to an ESPN report.

"Jake and Seneca are a week further along so we'll have to see how it goes," Mangini said. "If they can't play then Colt will start."

This is one rookie quarterback that I welcome to our Dome with open arms! I just don't see him looking like an all pro, not yet anyway...

Colt McCoy and Darren Sharper together for the first time. This could be a thing of beauty.

Wow their taking a page out of Cardinals book and every other team book that has used a rookie qb on the saints?
In a way im actually laughing but scared of this move..
Saints still have a bad history of making even the worst rookie qb's star's.

Your right about this and I don't like it one bit. Kinda scares med a little every time the Saints play a rookie QB.

You don't remember Couch burning us as a rookie in '99 with a "hail Mary" bomb at the end of the game? That's what I was referring to...and Oh, btw...he was with the Browns.

you said it. I'd love to laugh, but I know better. Hell, we lost to David Carr once. Remember, we were the "new" Cleveland's first win. Hail Mary anyone?

To tell ya the truth, I'd rather face Jake Delhomme.

I'm with you on that one. There is no real tape to study on rookie QBs. They usually do well intially until defenses start taking advantage of their weaknesses.

Jake on the other hand, you just know he's going to throw an interception and he won't ad lib any long runs like a young QB.

Bingo. I was wondering who would be the first to say this. Come on guys... a chance to beat down Jake Delhomme? You seriously want to pass that up?

skymike 10-26-2010 05:17 PM

geez, I wonder how bad Jon Kitna is going to own us?

310 passing yards. 3 TD's, one interception (and another two dropped by our secondary). Oh, and he'll have 7 rushes for 68 yards and a score.
